Happy Independence Day.

Before 2014, for people who we're born into independent Ukraine, it's Independence was a given — the only possible course of history. In 2014 many of us have realized that Independence is Something you fight for. By cherishing your culture, by being active in your community, or, when there's no other choice, by taking up arms.

Today I want to thank everyone who fought and fights for Ukraine's independence, in the past and today. The fight is not yet won and there's no natural path of history other than the one we define by our actions.

Let us do our best so that we still have something to celebrate next year and maybe, we will celebrate it in peace.

context: Sudzha is a town in Kursk Oblast currently occupied by Ukraine. As Ukrainian forces started advancing into the area, russians started chaotically bombing the reagion in attempt to slow down Ukrainian advance, striking towns with suspected Ukrainian presence with ballistic missiles and low-precision guided bombs.
