Understanding Kufr bit-taghut.
We begin in the name of Allah, and upon Him we rely.
This channel is an explanation of the fundamental part of Islamic 'Aqidah (creed or doctrine), commonly referred to as "al-Kufr bit-taghut wal-imanu billah", the disbelief in taghut and the belief in Allah. It compromises the two pillars of "La ilaha ila Allah", the statement which the entire religion is built upon. Thus, every Muslim, whether male or female, young or old, needs to understand this, and understand it well.
We ask Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, to make this easy to understand and beneficial for the Muslims. These posts are based upon a well known booklet, translated and released by some brothers.

"Kufr bit-Taghut"
By Shaykh Bishr ibn Fahd al-Bishr.
He gives a comprehensive definition of the word taghut, explains some of the Ayat where the word is mentioned, explains it's heads and categories, then connects all of this to the modern world.
Actualizing Kufr bit-Taghut.
#AlKufrBitTaghut [12/12]
al-Imam Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab (رحمه الله تعالى) said: "Concerning the description of kufr bit-taghut, then verily, it is that you belelieve in the invalidity of worship done to other than Allah and to leave it and to hate it being done and to declare of takfir of its people and have hostility towards them.
In regards to the meaning of iman in Allah, then verily, it is that you believe that Allah is the only one who should be worshiped and not anything else other than Him and to purify all types of worship for Allah and to negate it from everything else that is worshiped other than Him and to love and ally with the people of ikhlas and to hate and take as enemies the people of shirk.
This is the religion of Ibrahim (عليه السلام), which only a fool would abandon. And this is the example that Allah informed us about in His statement:
"You already have an excellent example in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, “We totally dissociate ourselves from you and whatever you worship besides Allah. We reject you. The enmity and hatred that has arisen between us and you will last until you believe in Allah alone.”[1]
The Shaykh (رحمه الله) also said: "The meaning of kufr bit-taghut is that you disassociate fro everything that is believed in besides Allah, whether a jinn or a man or a tree or a stone or other than that. And that you bear witness to its kufr and misguidance and that you hate it, even if he was your father or brother."[3]
Allah (تعالى) says:
"And those who avoid the worship of false gods, turning to Allah [alone] will have good news. So give good news to My servants."[2]
Shaykh Sulayman ibn Sahman (رحمه الله تعالى) explained this Ayah: "These ayat contain proof to avoid it — meaning the taghut — from many angles. And what is meant by 'avoid' is to hate it and have animosity to it with the heart and to curse and revile it with the tongue and to remove it depending on one's ability and to separate from it. So whoever claims to avoid the taghut yet does not do [all] that, is not truthful [in his claim]."
Shaykh 'Abdur-Rahman ibn Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab (رحمه الله تعالى) said: "If one knows the meaning of 'La ilaha ila Allah' then he will know that whoever doubts or is uncertain in regards to the kufr of whoever associates another with Allah, has not disbelieved in the taghut."
From this, we come to know how to fully acutalize our disbelief in the tawaghit and actualize are belief in Allah:
Kufr bit-Taghut:
(1) to reject it, and abandon it's worship
(2) to deny it any kind of divinity
(3) to know that whoever worships it has disbelieved
(4) to hate it, and to hate the people of shirk
al-imanu billah:
(1) affirm Allah's existence
(2) affirm his divinity and oneness
- in His Rububiyyah
- in His Uluhiyyah
- in His asma was-sifat
(3) worship Him alone
(4) to love tawhid, and to love the people of tawhid
And Allah knows best. May He makes us of those who disbelieve in the taghut, and make the religion purely for Him alone. Ameen.

The tawaghit of the modern world.
#AlKufrBitTaghut [11/12]
They are:
- The parliaments that establish and fabricate man-made laws to judge the people and to rule by, thereby dismantling the divine laws revealed by Allah (عز وجل). They fall into all three types of tawaghit, for indeed, seeking legislation is an act of worship, ruling is the right of Allah, and people obey these criminals instead of Allah (سبحانه وتعالى).
- All International groups that seek the implementation of man-made laws all around the world — all of which call to the worship and obedience of other than Allah, and to follow these laws made by the whims of man. And included in this, are those who seek to appease this international war on the Shar'iah of Allah (تعالى) and it's implementation in Muslim lands.
- Democracy, Patriotism, Interfaith, Nationalism, Communism, Fascism, liberalism, "freedom of belief", and any other form of secular ideology is a taghut, and it obligatory to disbelieve in it, to abandon it entirely, to hate it, to know that it is void and null, and to declare takfir on it's followers.
- The leaders, Imams, and Shuyukh of the filthy pagan Rafidha. Those who call to the worship of their so-called Imams, lifting them up to a status above Allah and attributing to them Allah's exclusive rights. Thus, nullifying all three categories of tawhid. Not only that, but slandering the companions of the Prophet, and making du'a to other than Allah. Anyone who calls to this rotten ideology is from the tawaghit of our time.
- Likewise, those who call towards the worship of the graves. Those who deify men who are no different from you and I. Those who calls towards the shirk of Allah, hiding under terminology like "tawassul" and "istighatha", Indeed they are tawaghit and apostates, just like the Rabbis of the Jews and the Priests of the Christians. From among them, are those who call towards the aqidah of the Jahmiyyah and their sub-sects.
- Those who call towards the worship of one's lusts and desires. This can be seen especially within groups of sexual deviants and degenerates, like the homosexual and transvestite community. They put their desires before Allah, before rational thought, and they live their life according to such desires. Allah's refuge is sought from them.
- And other various tawaghit include: psychics, money-worship, science-worship, conspiracy-theory worship, and more.
The different categories & heads of taghut
#AlKufrBitTaghut [10/12]
And here we finish the last of 5 heads of the tawaghit, which were mentioned by Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab
5 - Whoever is worshiped besides Allah and is pleased with that, or whoever calls to the worship of himself.
"Whoever of them were to say, “I am a god besides Him,” they would be rewarded with Hell by Us. This is how We reward the wrongdoers." [1]
This is clear, as the entire religion of Islam — the reason why the Prophets and Messengers were sent was to establish the pure monotheistic worship of Allah (عز وجل). So, whoever claims that he himself is a god other than Allah, or is pleased with being worshiped, then he is a taghut, as what is more of a transgression against Allah than claiming divinity for oneself? With this being said, if someone is worshiped, but does not like that worship — such as 'Isa (عليه السلام), then they are not tawaghit.

The different categories & heads of taghut
#AlKufrBitTaghut [9/12]
Continuing on with the 5 heads of the tawaghit, as mentioned by Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab
4 - Whoever claims to have knowledge of the unseen.
"Say, [O Prophet], “None in the heavens and the earth has knowledge of the unseen except Allah. Nor do they know when they will be resurrected."[1]
And therefore, whoever claims to know matters from al-Ghayb (the unseen) is a taghut. Why? Because he has claimed to posses traits and attributes that Allah has negated for anyone else, thus transgressing the limits of Allah. The magician, the soothsayer, the fortuneteller, and the psychic all claim to possess knowledge of the unseen — and this is a claim that goes against Allah's oneness in His rububiyyah. Allah (سبحاته وتعالى) says:
"With Him are the keys of the unseen—no one knows them except Him."[2]
And He (تبارك وتعالى) has said:
عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
"[He is the] Knower of the unseen, disclosing none of it to anyone"[3]
Thus, it is am obligation upon the Muslim to warn from whoever claims to know the unseen. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
"Whoever goes to a fortune-teller and asks him about anything, his salah will be accepted for 40 nights."[4]
And he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
"Whoever goes to a soothsayer or fortune-teller and believes him, has disbelieved in what was revealed upon Muhammad."[5]
The reason for this is because the person who goes to these tawaghit who claim knowledge of the unseen — and believes them — is directly believing something that contradicts what Allah (تعالى) revealed to mankind.

The different categories & heads of taghut
#AlKufrBitTaghut [8/12]
Continuing on with the 5 heads of the tawaghit, as mentioned by Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab
3 - Whoever judges by other than Allah what Allah revealed.
"And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are [truly] the disbelievers." [1]
This is the one who uses man-made laws, tribal codes, and other sets of rulings to judge between two disputing groups of people. Al-Baghawi (رحمه الله), when giving his tafsir of the ayah above, related from a group of scholars that: "This is when [judging in a case] he goes against the ruling of Allah deliberately. But if the matter was unclear to him or he made a mistake in its interpretation, then it does not apply."[2]
Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) said: Whoever takes a ruling in his dispute according to other than Allah and His messenger, has judged according to the taghut; and verily, he was ordered to disbelieve in it. The slave will not have disbelieved in the taghut until he singles out judgement for Allah." [3]
Thus, when a ruler or judge uses these man-made laws to judge between disputing parties — he is an apostate from the religion of Islam, and has become a taghut. Furthermore, whoever goes to this judge to seek arbitration from him, indeed, they have become disbelievers in Allah. Just as Allah (تعالى) said:
فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىٰ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا۟ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًۭا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًۭا
"But no! By your Lord, they will never be [true] believers until they accept you [O Prophet] as the judge in their disputes, and find no resistance within themselves against your decision and submit wholeheartedly." [4]
Allah negated iman from them, "they will never be [true believers].." because they did not judge according to what Allah had revealed in His Speech or through the tongue of His Messenger When a person goes to a taghut, with the intention of seeking a ruling, they fall into the ayah we mentioned before:
يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَحَاكَمُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ
"And they wish to seek legislation from the taghut" [5]
———
1 - Surah al-Ma'idah 44
2 - Tafsir al-Baghawi
3 - Tariq al-Hijratayn
4 - Surah an-Nisa 65
5 - Surah an-Nisa 60
The different categories & heads of taghut
#AlKufrBitTaghut [7/12]
Continuing with the 5 heads of the tawaghit, as mentioned by Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab
2 - The one who changes/alters the rulings of Allah.
"Have you [O Prophet] not seen those who claim they believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They wish to seek the legislation of the taghut, which they were commanded to reject. And Satan [only] desires to lead them farther away." [1]
The one who changes Allah's laws is a taghut, for he has put himself in the position of Allah — the position of al-Hakim. A human being so arrogant that he sees himself as being equal to the One Who created him, and therefore changes the laws of Allah to suit his own desires or agenda. He substitutes (tabdil) the rulings of Allah with man-made laws, tribal laws, or dismantles an Islamic laws — such as the hudud punishments, jihad, zakah, etc.
