Malik ibn Dinar رحمه الله said,

"It is enough evil for a man that he’s unrighteous, yet he speaks ill of the righteous people.”

[Shu’ab al-Eeman, v. 5, pg. 316]

Near the beginning of surah al-Hijr, Allah says:

[رُبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ]

Those who disbelieve will sometimes wish they had been Muslims.

In his collection of tafsir, Sa'eed ibn Mansoor reported:

[قال مجاهد : ذاك وهم في النار ، حين يرون أهل الإسلام يخرجون من النار بإسلامهم..]

Mujahid said: That will be when they are in the hellfire when they see the people of Islam being removed from the hellfire on account of their Islam.

While discussing the virtues of 'Uthman in his expansive book of history, ibn Kathir mentioned the following:

‎[وقال سفيان بن عيينة: ثنا إسرائيل بن موسى، سمعت الحسن يقول: قال عثمان: لو أن قلوبنا طهرت ما شبعنا من كلام ربنا، وإني لأكره أن يأتي علي يوم لا أنظر في المصحف. وما مات عثمان حتى خرق مصحفه من كثرة ما يديم النظر فيه. ]

Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah relayed from Israa'eel ibn Moosaa who heard al-Hasan say: 'Uthman said, "If our hearts were pure, we could never get our fill of the Speech of our Lord. And as for me, I hate to let a day go by without reading from the mushaf." And by the time 'Uthman died, his mushaf had become torn from how often he used to read from it.

al-Hasan al-Başrī, that he used to frequently say:

يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ، عَلَيْكُمْ بِالآخِرَةِ فَاطْلُبُوهَا، فَكَثِيرًا رَأَيْنَا مَنْ طَلَبَ الآخِرَةَ فَأَدْرَكَهَا مَعَ الدُّنْيَا، وَمَا رَأَيْنَا أَحَدًا طَلَبَ الدُّنْيَا فَأَدْرَكَ الْآخِرَةَ مَعَ الدُّنْيَا.

"O young people, it is upon you to pursue the Hereafter. We have often seen those who pursued the Hereafter and reached it while still attaining the dunya. However, we have never seen someone pursue the dunya and still get the Hereafter alongside the duniya.

Keeping Good Thoughts

Know that the quality of your life is connected to the quality of your thoughts. Consequently, when your thoughts are the kind that brings benefit to you in your life and religion, then you will live a good, happy life, and the opposite brings the opposite result.

قال ابن تيمية رحمه الله:
Ibn Taymiyyah may Allah have mercy on him said:

ليس من شرط المُتَّقِين ونحوهم أن لا يقع منهم
ذنب،
It is not a condition for the pious (al-Muttaqeen) and those like them that they do not commit any sin,

ولا أن يكونوا معصومين من الخطأ والذنوب
nor that they be infallible from mistakes and sins.

فإنَّ هذا لو كان كذلك لم يكن في الأُمَّة مُتَّقٍ
For if that were the case, there would be no pious person in the Ummah.

بل من تاب من ذنوبه دخل في المتقِين
Rather, whoever repents from his sins enters among the pious.

ومن فعل ما يُكفِّر سيئاته دخل في المُتَّقِين
And whoever does what expiates his misdeeds enters among the pious.

(منهاج السُنَّة 7/ 82)

قال شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية رحمه الله؛

والناس إذا تعاونوا على الإثم والعدوان أبغض بعضهم بعضاً.

Sheikh al Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

When people cooperate in sin and transgression, they come to hate one another.

Narrated Samura bin Jundab:The Prophet (ﷺ) said in his narration of a dream that he saw, "He whose head was being crushed with a stone was one who learnt the Qur'an but never acted on it, and slept ignoring the compulsory prayers."

Reliance upon Allâh

When the heart relies on Allâh, has trust in Him, refuses to surrender to evil thoughts and anxiety and longs for Allâh's favor and bounty, all types of depression and sadness will dissipate, Allâh willing. Also, various types of diseases that might strike the body and the heart will be avoided, earning the heart inner-strength, delight and comfort that cannot be duly explained with words.

Narrated Abu Huraira:I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "My example and the example of the people is that of a man who made a fire, and when it lighted what was around it, Moths and other insects started falling into the fire. The man tried (his best) to prevent them, (from falling in the fire) but they overpowered him and rushed into the fire. The Prophet (ﷺ) added: Now, similarly, I take hold of the knots at your waist (belts) to prevent you from falling into the Fire, but you insist on falling into it."
