A deep chill is expected to settle over the Northern Plains and Great Lakes regions for much of the winter season. Southern areas can still expect some frigid blasts, even if the temperatures are slightly more moderate overall. Cold snaps are forecast to hit during the final week of January into early February, with the Northern Plains potentially seeing the most extreme cold.

The Northeast is in the bullseye for a barrage of storms this winter, with above-normal amounts of winter precipitation. Snow will be more plentiful in the interior and mountainous regions of New England and the Northeast, while those near the coast can expect more sleet & rain. The Pacific NW, Great Lakes, Southeast should expect a wet, white, and slushy season.

Meanwhile, the Southwest + South Central States are looking at a drier winter with below-normal precipitation.
