To what extent do you agree or disagree?

*The debate surrounding the idea of involving students in extracurricular activities other than academics is ongoing. While the proponents of exclusivity of education might support the full-stack learning, I completely believe that the involvement beyond education can improve students’ professional and personal traits.

One important element of extra activities other than education is that it usually helps promote a professional development apart from education. For future job and its prospects, most students can nurture well-rounded characteristics within their nature. For example, involvement in voluntary projects and community services like taking care of elderly or helping households in need can teach essential professional skills such as communication, collaboration, and, most importantly, the skills to realize the needs of people. This can lead to the attainment of competitive advantage for students in highly-intensive competitive job market.

Extracurricular activities can also help in other important domains: a personal growth. Different activities such as debate tournaments, intellectual competitions, and sports can foster various personal subskills and traits. While doing sports added to the academic rigor, a case in point, can enhance the students’ self-confidence in many walks of life, arts like painting can improve their cognitive improvement as well as emotional expression. As a result, these pursuits can translate into an ideal characteristics for students’ individuality which can not only attract potential employers, but they can also be embraced by the society.

On the other hand, it can be argued that the detraction from academic goals is a major disadvantage. Overemphasis on such activities might, allegedly, reduce the academic performance. Contrary to this belief, the holistic approach with equal balance for each can ultimately work to the advantage of students.

In conclusion, there are certain benefits: job prospects and self-growth, students can reap from involvement in a wide range of non-educational activities, while it might have unexpected side-effects. In my opinion, extra activities are hugely advantageous with the right balance in a learning environment.*

*The maps illustrate the transformation of an Industrial area into a Housing area in the future. We can see that six changes will take place in the area given most of which will be the removal of existing facilities and introduction of new housing estates in the future.

While this area is surrounded by main roads from all sides, it is clear that there is one building in the northern part of the place: “entrance and reception” block. However, this will be completely demolished to make way for the construction of three two-bedroom houses in a row with additional communal gardens in the southern part of the buildings. In the eastern side of the area, “Parking” and “Storage” stand side by side overlooking the main road from eastwards. But these complexes will be replaced by two jointly-built housing estates: three-bedroom house and four-bedroom house.

In the south-eastern part of the industrial area, “Factory” is laid down overlooking the main road. Afterwards, it is planned to be converted into two separate spots such as “Parking area” and “Apartments”.

There are six “Office”s and one “Canteen” in the southern block of the area, while they will be completely turned into “Parking garages” eventually.*
