This year in winter we were not lucky enough to photograph the Northern Lights beyond the Arctic Circle. But quite unexpectedly, a strong solar flare brought the Northern Lights to 51 degrees north latitude. On May 11, half past midnight, I was going to shoot a timelapse of the Milky Way. The first test images turned red and I thought that some camera settings had gone wrong. But after 15 minutes, bright flashes of the Northern Lights were visible throughout the sky with the naked eye. The colors and shades, unlike the radiance I had previously seen, were not green, but red-pink-violet. There was no limit to the delight!
