In all my years I've learned that "being in love" and "loving someone" are two wildly different things.
You can love a lot of people, but being in love doesn't happen very often.
You will only love someone who can love you back, but being in love doesn't need reciprocation, it blooms on its own and you can't do anything about it.
And finally, loving someone and losing them hurts, but the pain will fade after a while. Whereas the pain of losing the one you were in love with is always there and will always be there.
