AJA calls out disrespect to ANZACs by the Greens

The Australian Jewish Association has accused Greens councillor Rafaela Pandolfini of seeking to "politicise" Anzac Day after she wore a piece of clothing associated with pro-Palestinian protests to a dawn service in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

In an image posted to Twitter, now X, by the AJA, Ms Pandolfini can apparently be seen wearing a keffiyeh shawl as she steps forward to lay flowers during the service in Coogee.

"Disappointed to see that a Greens Randwick councillor couldn't help herself and had to politicise the Coogee dawn service by wearing one of the Kefiyahs worn by the radical protesters and terrorists," the AJA wrote above the picture.

The councillor's decision to wear the clothing item has drawn backlash, with commenters on the AJA's post calling the act a "disgrace" and accusing Ms Pandolfini of having "no class."

"Political statements at an Anzac dawn service is reprehensible," another commenter said.

When contacted for comment Ms Pandolfini told Skynews.com.au she had been confronted after the service by a man who attempted to film her and who had "asked me questions incessantly" as she walked away.

"I have since received vitriolic emails and messages, mainly from men," she added.

The Greens councillor then sought to link the abuse with a wider pattern of violence and threatening behaviour toward women in Australia, saying coverage of her decision to wear the controversial garment was contributing to the issue.

"A woman is murdered every four days by a man in this country," Ms Pandolfini said.

"This is an ideological scourge that needs to be called out and treated seriously or it is going to continue to escalate just as we have seen this year.

"These news stories participate in insidious aggression towards women."
