The Florida Department of Health has advised against any use of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines going into the fall and winter, and said for those 65 and older with underlying health conditions, healthcare providers should “prioritize patient access to non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and treatment.”

An uptick of COVID-19 typically accompanies the fall and winter seasons, though the symptoms of the virus are now comparable to the common cold in most cases.

“Based on the high rate of global immunity and currently available data, the State Surgeon General advises against the use of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines,” the department said in a release. “Any provider concerned about the health risks associated with COVID-19 for patients over the age of 65 or with underlying health conditions should prioritize patient access to non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and treatment.”
