[**Friends On That Day Will Be …

Friends On That Day Will Be Foes

Shaykh Sālih al-Usaimi, may Allah preserve him, shared the following:

“Love among the creation is brought together by various relationships which will vanish on the Day of Resurrection and turn to enmity, except for the bond of Taqwa (piety; reverential fear of Allah), for the love among its people will endure. This is as Allah, the Most-High, says:

ٱلْأَخِلَّآءُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

Friends on that Day will be foes one to another except Al-Muttaqûn (the people of Taqwa)[Surah az-Zukhruf, Ayah 67]

So, examine closely your relationships so that you don’t meet those whom you love (today) as enemies on the Day of Resurrection.”

The Intention Reaches Further Than the Action?

Shaykh Abdul Azīz bin Bāz رحمه الله was asked:

“Is the statement ‘the believers’ intention is further reaching than their actions’ correct?”

The Shaykh رحمه الله replied:

“This is from the speech of some of the Salaf, extracted from the hadith that actions are only based on their intentions and that the servant will have that for which they intended. And if someone intends to do a good deed and they are prevented with a legitimate excuse, they still get the reward like the one who did it, as the authentic hadīth mentions:

إذا مرض العبد أو سافر كتب له مثل ما كان يعمل مقيماً صحيحاً

‘If the servant falls ill or is on a journey, the reward for their actions is recorded as if they are resident and healthy.’[Bukhari]

And the hadīth:

‘Verily, there are those in Madinah who, whenever you cross a road or a mountain path, they are with you (in terms of reward because of their righteous intention). They’ve been prevented by a valid excuse.'”[Muslim]

Umar ibn Abdul-Aziz رحمه الله entered the masjid on a dark night, and as he passed by a man sleeping, he stumbled over him. The man raised his head and said, "Are you crazy ?!", not realizing that it was the leader of the believers who had stumbled into him.

So, Umar replied, "No."

One of the guards wanted to confront the man when Umar told him to leave him, saying:

"He only asked me if I'm crazy, and I said no."

He Used to Love Pumpkin

It was reported by Anas bin Maalik

“He (the Messenger of Allah ﷺ) used to love pumpkin.”
Shaykh Zayd ibn Muhammad al-Madkhali, may Allah have mercy on him, commented:

“The pumpkin tree is well-known and its well-known fruit is roasted by fire, and the Prophet ﷺ used to enjoy pumpkin whether it was mixed with something else (like in a soup) or roasted on its own. So it is from the foods which the Prophet ﷺ loved, and it is legislated for the Ummah that they love what their Prophet ﷺ loved. And whoever refrains from it or does not prefer it, then there is no harm, as people vary regarding their preferences in food and drink.”

[Brief Bio] Tamīm ibn Aws ad-Dāri

From the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who were head narrators in the famous 40 ahādith of Imām an-Nawawi

Tamīm ibn Aws ad-Dāri

He is known by his kūnya of ‘Abu Ruqayyah’ because of his daughter Ruqayyah, who was his only child. His name is Tamīm ibn Aws, ibn Khārijah, ibn Sūd, ibn Jadhīmah, ibn Wadā’a (it is also said Dharā’a), from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. There are three potential origins behind the ascription ‘ad-Dāri’, one of which is in reference to a grandfather of his. Another is a place known as ‘Dārain’, while the third is in a reference to a monastery (in Arabic, ‘dair’ دير) where he used to worship.

He left Christianity and accepted Islām in the 9th Hijri year and moved from al-Madīnah to ash-Shām after the killing of ‘Ūthmān ibn ‘Affān رضي الله عنه, eventually settling in Jerusalem.

The Prophet ﷺ narrated from him the hadīth of al-Jassāsah, alluding to his lofty and honorable virtue. In hadīth terminology, this is an example of the Akābir (those greater in age, status, or knowledge, particularly in this example the Messenger of Allah ﷺ) relaying from the Asāghir (those lesser in age, status, or knowledge; Tamīm ad-Dāri in this example), and it is said that Tamīm did not transmit ahādith from any of the other companions.

He was known for the night prayer and reciting the Qur’ān, at times completing the entire Qur’ān in a single raka’ah. He was the first of those to teach the people by way of stories after having been granted permission to do so by Umar رضي الله عنه during his Caliphate.

He died in the 40th Hijri year in Falestine

He is the head narrator of hadīth #7 in the 40 Hadith of Imām an-Nawawi

100 Benefits of ibn Uthaymīn 47/100

The Virtue of Clinging to the Sunnah

Shaykh Muhammad bin Sālih al-Uthaymīn رحمه الله stated:

“Truly, from the effects of holding on to the Sunnah is that a person rejects innovation, because the Prophet ﷺ stated:

خير الحديث كتاب الله وخير الهدي هدي محمد وشر الامور محدثاتها
‘The best speech is the Speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad ﷺ. And the worst of affairs are those which have been newly introduced.’

So, as a rule, innovations oppose the Sunnah, therefore every time ones adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ intensifies, the further they are from innovation.”
