It took the IOC 39 years to mention the victims of the Munich-72 terrorist attack during the Tokyo-21 opening ceremony, along with the victims of the coronavirus pandemic.

IOC President Thomas Bach informed the families of the Israeli Olympians killed by terrorists in Munich that there will be no minute of silence in their memory at Paris-2024, "to avoid devaluation."

Earlier, the Israeli Olympic Committee was forbidden to hold the traditional memorial ceremony on the eve of the opening due to security concerns. It will be held after the start of the Olympics at the Israeli ambassador's residence, not at Paris City Hall.
