Argentina recently elected Javier Milei, a right-leaning libertarian, to serve as President for the next four years.

This is important for several reasons:

1.) Argentina has been ruled under Peronism, also known as 'justicialism', a labor and left-leaning wing of the political movement, for most of the last century.

2.) The country has been in an economic crisis, with inflation at its highest level since the early 1990s; a vote for Milei was a vote for something new, something folks hope will change the job market and cost of living.

3.) Javier Milei was not expected to win by such a large majority, having garnered over 14.5 Million votes (almost 56% of the ballot), considering he's very new to politics with some 'radical ideas'.

4.) He often could be seen during his campaign with a chainsaw, an illustration of his plans to slash government spending and take down the political elite; showing his true, off-cuff nature.

5.) Many have likened him to United States President Donald J. Trump due to his bold style and way of expressing his opinion. Just like Trump, he's constantly attacked by the Left, who thinks that he's 'radical'.

6.) Milei is staunchly pro-Life, denied climate change, wants to dollarize the economy, ban abortion, hand out vouchers for private schools, and favors less-restrictive gun laws. Prior to working in politics, he worked as an economist and television personality, so he will require some support to get any of this passed.

7.) Milei used to be a lead singer of a Rolling Stones cover band, called 'Everest'. He was bullied as a child, given the nickname El Loco (The Madman), and resonates more with the average citizen than most originally thought possible.
