Sulaymān Āl as-Shaykh said :

قال سليمان آل الشيخ : كثير من أهل الباطل إنما يتركون الحق خوفاً من زوال دنياهم.

Many of the people of Bāṭil. [falsehood] abandon Al-Ḥaqq [truth] out of fear of losing their worldly gains.

At-Tābiʿī ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr said:

قال التابعي عروة ابن الزبير : ليس الرجل الذي إذا وقع في الأمر تخلص منه ؛ ولكن الرجل يتوقى الأمور حتى لا يقع فيها.

A man is not one who, when he falls into a predicament, finds a way out of it.

Rather, a man is one who avoids predicaments so that he does not fall into them in the first place.

The Lie of Adolescence - Age is Not a Measure

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته ،

My brothers, the lie of adolescence is a fabrication invented by the West to justify mistakes and discourage ambition.

You see some parents excuse their children’s behavior by claiming they are “teenagers” and thus prone to recklessness, so they should not be scrutinized closely. According to this claim, a “teenager” can have girlfriends/boyfriends, act on emotions rather than reason, be highly irritable, try to assert themselves, be reckless, neglect prayers, shout at parents, and show no respect for elders. All this is excused under the lie of “adolescence.”

According to the majority of Shāfiʿī scholars, if no signs of puberty appear on a boy or girl by the age of fifteen, they are then considered to have reached adulthood.

At this age, they become accountable if they are sane, and the religious obligations apply to them. They are responsible for their actions on the Day of Judgment. Only a child before puberty is excused from obligations. Once they reach puberty, the excuse is removed, and they will be rewarded for their good deeds and questioned about their bad ones.

Our Islamic history is filled with prominent scholars, leaders, and warriors at the so-called age of adolescence :

The noble companion Zayd ibn Thābit (age 13) became a scribe of the revelation, learned Syriac and Hebrew in 17 days, and helped compile the Qurʾān.

The companion Usāmah ibn Zayd (age 18) led the Muslim army despite the presence of companions like Abū Bakr and ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb.

The companions Muʿādh ibn ʿAmr (age 13) and Muʿawwidh ibn ʿAfrāʾ (age 13) killed Abū Jahl in the Battle of Badr, one of the leading figures of the Mushrikeen at the time.

The companion ʿAmr ibn Kulthūm was the leader of his tribe [the Taghlib tribe], which was said: “If not for Islam, the Taghlib would have devoured people” [due to their ferocity].

The companion al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām (age 15) was the first to draw his sword for Islam and was a close disciple of the Prophet ﷺ.

The companion Ṭalḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh (age 16) was one of the most generous Arabs in Islam. He pledged to die for the Prophet ﷺ in the Battle of Uḥud, shielding the Prophet from arrows with his hand until his fingers were paralyzed and protected him with his own body.

Al-imām as-Shāfiʿī was told, “Issue fatwas, O Abū ʿAbdiAllāh, for it is time for you to do so,” when he was fifteen years old.

So, my Muslim brother, do not be deceived by these labels. You are, by the grace of Allāh, a mature, rational, responsible adult accountable for what you do and say. Be a true Muslim man and embody the qualities of Islam. You are the descendant of those heroes and the inheritor of their glory, so follow their example.

The Worshipful Mujāhid Imām : Ibn Idrīs as-Shāfiʿī**

Ar-Rabīʿ al-Murādī said :

عن الربيع المرادي أنَّه قال : خرجت مع الشافعي من (الفسطاط) إلى (الإسكندرية)، مرابطاً، وكان يصلي الصلوات الخمس في المسجد الجامع، ثم يسير إلى المَحرس -دُشْمَةُ الرِبَاطِ-، فيستقبل البحر بوجهه جالساً يقرأ القرآن في الليل والنهار، حتى أحصيت عليه ستين ختمة في شهر رمضان

I went out with as-Shāfiʿī from al-Fusṭāṭ to Alexandria for ribāṭ [guard duty on the frontier].

He [as-Shāfiʿī] used to pray the five daily prayers in the congregational mosque, then go to the guard post [dushmah of ribāṭ], face the sea, and sit reading the Qurʾān day and night.

I counted sixty complete recitations during the month of Ramaḍān.
