The sender input is mixed with 16 other onchain outputs with the RingSignatures protocol.
Amounts are encrypted over the RingCT protocol.
The receiver address is onchain protected by the Stealth Address Protocol.
(You can audit your transactions if you want, the transparency is optionnal, unlike all cryptocurrency uses a transparent history that make your whole financial life public and traceable.)

-Highly scalable:
Arbitrary blocksize feature of the monero blockchain can process up to 1000 TPS with 1block/2min and fees are very very low like 0.001$.
