AAU and Awash Bank Ink MoU for Knowledge Sharing, Talent Development
Addis Ababa University and Awash Bank signed a partnership to promote strategy-driven capacity development and create opportunities for their professionals on the 20th of November 2024.
Accordingly, AAU’s College of Business and Economics will provide the expertise and skills necessary to further capacitate Awash Bank S in line with the pace of liberalization in the financial sector which would require local banks are able to compete with their foreign peers.
Speaking at the signing event, AAU president Dr Samuel Kifle said, in cooperation with Awash Bank, the flagship university will develop an advanced curriculum focusing on the emerging needs of the banking industry, invite Awash Bank professionals to share their experiences; send faculty in externship to invest their knowledge in the industry; and work on common beneficiary projects including advancing technology.
Dr Samuel Kifle further said AAU has entered into solid long-term collaboration and strategic co-operation agreements with players in the financial industry as Ethiopia’s first autonomous public university, adding the deal with Awash Bank represents a move from plan to action.
Mr. Tadesse Gemeda, Chief Wholesale Banking Officer of Awash Bank, for his part said Awash Bank S.C will provide state-of-the art banking services to the university community and work together in key topics identified for cooperation in areas of the bank’s strategic and R&D needs.

Registration Guideline for First-Year Graduate Students (Regular and Extension)
Both regular and extension first-year students should complete their registration process as steps indicated below
Step 1. Check your admission status on the portal and get your ID. No.
Step 2. Begin by logging into the https://portal.aau.edu.et with your Username (ID No.) and password.
Step 3. Click on Registration ------> Check your courses, Tuition fees, and registration fee (300 Birr + tuition fees for self-sponsored regular and extension students).
Step 4. Complete your Registration fee and Tuition fee (Self-sponsored regular and extension students) using Tele Birr.
Step 5. Update your profile (Birth Date, email address, Phone No., Photograph…)! and Click Here >>>
Step 6. Select Courses ------> Click on Submit. You will receive a confirmation notice immediately.
Step 7. Click on Logout to close the application.
Once you have completed your registration, you should contact your college registrar's office.
Date of Registration:
📅 November 8, 2024 for Regular Students
📅 November 9 and 10, 2024 for Extension Students

Visiting Deputy Minister Calls on AAU to Join Russian-African University Network
Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, Konstantin Mogilevsky, visited Addis Ababa University, and conferred with President Dr Samuel Kifle. The two sides held deliberations on strategic areas for cooperation that included technology, health, space science, mining and energy.
During the discussions, the Russian minister extended an invitation to AAU to join the Russian- African University network.
The network is a Russian initiative that brings together Russian and African universities as development partners engaged in educational and scientific cooperation as well as joint infrastructural projects.
Joint MA/PhD programs, academic mobility ventures, intercultural dialogue, as well as joint research and consulting are some of the areas of cooperation between Russian and African universities forming the consortium.
The network boasts 61 Russian universities and 31 higher education institutions from 11 African countries.

AAU, JICA Host Next Innovation with Japan (NINJA) Startup Acceleration Training
On October 22, 2024, the Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer Office of Addis Ababa University, in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, hosted a 10-day training for university students at the Eshetu Chole Hall.
Solomon Kiros, PhD, the Director for University-Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer, articulated that a memorandum of understanding has been signed between JICA, AAU, and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology.
He said the agreement aims to introduce capacity-building initiatives focused on innovation, incubation, and startups.
He noted that the program is designed to provide students with technical training, thereby significantly enhancing their entrepreneurial mindset and fostering their development as business-oriented graduates.
Dr Solomon further stated that the training aims to equip students with knowledge that will be advantageous to the nation across various sectors, including education, tourism, mining, agriculture, manufacturing, and information and communication technology (ICT).
He mentioned that one hundred and fifteen students from different divisions of Addis Ababa University submitted proposals, of whom the top eighteen who presented the most innovative proposals successfully completed the incubation and startup training.
Dr. Hailu Elias, the Dean of the College of Business and Economics, stated that Addis Ababa University is undergoing unprecedented transformation, adding the university ‘s new strategic plan aims to produce entrepreneurial graduates.
Betelihem Zewdie, the Director of R & D Group Ethiopia, emphasized that the program serves as a training initiative designed to assist students in transforming their business concepts into strategic plans, as well as effectively identifying and organizing their marketing systems and customer bases.
It was mentioned that in addition to Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa University of Science and Technology, Mekele and Jimma Universities will participate in the trainings.
