Let me tell you something interesting about the UK economy. Although the UK, unlike Germany, Japan, and Netherlands, has deficit in the trade of goods, it has quite a good surplus from its services. That surplus might not be enough to balance the deficit in its current account but there is still something to consider. The UK generally imports more than it exports. However, what it imports is not just for consumption, rather the UK imports more of necessary industrial machinery and parts to produce products, like engines and etc., and sell. That's why its deficit is not necessarily a huge problem while in the case of just importing products and ending up with just consuming could have caused.
Going back to its surplus, the UK has historically been profitting in the trade of services. Its main source of that profit or service bank is LONDON. £1 BILLION POUNDS can be MADE EACH DAY in LONDON! FROM SERVICES!!
