💥 ACMA Extends Deadline for Submissions regarding their new powers to punish social media platforms for 'mis and dis-information' 💥

Originally, the deadline for making submissions regarding the proposed bill which will put the final nail in the coffin for our rights to free speech should it pass, was set down as August 6th. Today, that has changed on ACMA’s website and you now have until the 20th of August to make a submission.Here is the link to the page - New ACMA Powers to Combat Misinformation and Disinformation - and below is the interview I did with Human Rights Solicitor, Peter Fam, this past Sunday regarding the threats this bill poses to our freedom. You can also download Peter’s submission here - feel free to use any of his points in your own letter to ACMA.

According to ACMA’s website, you can send your submission via the following method:

What are your FEARS and CONCERNS about the future?

The last few years have shown us that much of what we thought was ‘solid ground’ is actually ‘quick sand’ and sinking fast.

Those we relied on to protect, serve or govern us have proven their inadequacy (at best) and hidden agendas (at worst).

The government is taking aim at free speech and threatening the very foundations of our democracy.

This bill is far more than just a slippery slope for our civil liberties. It is highly subjective in its definition of what constitutes ‘misinformation’ – in fact, ‘misinformation’ will mean whatever the government wants it to mean. That’s why it is being called ‘Orwellian’, referencing ‘The Ministry of Truth’ from the novel ‘1984’ by George Orwell.

The censorship this bill seeks could easily include legitimate criticisms of the government, questions on science underpinning climate change ideology, questions about high immigration, gender dysphoria & the ‘no’ campaign against the voice to parliament. When ‘truth’ becomes a subjective tool for government, you have to ask, who will fact-check the fact-checkers?
