Seven Palestinians killed in Israeli West Bank raid

Seven Palestinians, including a doctor, have been killed by Israeli forces during an operation in Jenin in the north of the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry has said.

Dr Aseed Jabareen, a 50-year-old surgeon at Jenin Government Hospital, was shot dead on his way to work, according to the ministry.

Taiwan's newly inaugurated president William Lai has called on China to stop threatening the island and accept the existence of its democracy.

He urged Beijing to replace confrontation with dialogue, shortly after being sworn in on Monday.

He also said Taiwan would never back down in the face of intimidation from China, which has long claimed the island as its own.

France prison van attack: Manhunt for escaped prisoner enters second day

Hundreds of police officers have been deployed in Normandy in the search for Mohamed Amra, who escaped a police van transporting him to jail on Tuesday.

Known as "The Fly", Amra was being transported back from a court hearing in Rouen when a car rammed the prison van at a toll booth.

Armed men then opened fire on the vehicle, killing two prison officers.

Two French prison officers have been killed in an ambush on a prison van near Rouen in Normandy.

Reports in French media say an inmate who was being transported in the van has escaped together with the attackers.

Several hundred police officers and gendarmes have reportedly been deployed to carry out a manhunt.

Vladimir Putin set to transfer Sergei Shoigu from Russian defence ministry

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to replace his long-standing ally Sergei Shoigu as defence minister, the Kremlin has announced.

The 68-year-old has been in the role since 2012 and is to be appointed the head of Russia's Security Council.

Papers published by the upper chamber of the Russian parliament said Mr Shoigu will be replaced by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov.

Gaza aid reaches shore in first sea delivery

The first ship towing a barge of humanitarian aid to Gaza has unloaded supplies on to the shore.

The Spanish ship Open Arms left Cyprus on Tuesday with 200 tonnes of food desperately needed for Gaza, which the UN says is on the brink of famine.

Videos posted online show a crane moving crates from the barge to lorries waiting on a purpose-built jetty.

It marks the start of a trial to see if sea deliveries are effective, after air and land deliveries proved difficult. read more
