The US was one of the first nations to recognise Singapore’s independence in 1965, and our partnership has flourished over the decades. Our strong ties span many critical areas — trade and investment, defence and security, civilian nuclear technology, and even collaboration in outer space. These shared pursuits are built on a deep reservoir of mutual trust.

Singapore looks forward to working closely with the incoming administration to strengthen these bonds and explore new opportunities for closer cooperation.

I met Indonesia's Defence Minister LG(Rtd) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin this morning and welcomed him on his introductory visit to Singapore.

Singapore and Indonesia share close and long-standing bilateral and people-to-people ties. Our defence relations are especially strong - SAF's first exercise with a foreign counterpart was with Indonesia, and we continue to have many platforms for military exercises and professional exchanges.

The Defence Cooperation Agreement which entered into force last year reflects our robust defence ties. Building on this strong foundation, both sides are now looking at ways to further strengthen defence cooperation, both bilaterally and in ASEAN.

At Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, we launched a new “My $1 deal” initiative. Residents can redeem items like a packet of rice, cooking oil, or a tray of eggs for $1 each. This is our first time implementing this initiative, and we will learn from the experience and see how we can offer better deals in subsequent rounds.

Back in Jakarta as I continue my series of introductory visits to ASEAN capitals. Look forward to meeting President Prabowo, as well as several members of his new Cabinet, and discussing ways to strengthen bilateral ties ?????
