The Yerevan Municipality recently purchased twenty-one electric vehicles for a total of $644,000. This included twenty 2024 Chinese-made BYD Song Plus crossovers and one 2023 Mercedes EQE500 SUV.

An analysis of the purchase contracts reveals that the municipality could have bought three additional BYDs instead of the Mercedes, which cost $85,200.

All vehicles were purchased from Eco Motors Group LLC, a company founded in 2021 and owned by Armen Abrahamyan. Abrahamyan and Artavazd Tarkhanyan, an advisor to the chairman of the Urban Development Committee, also own Eco Build Group LLC.

Around 1,000 children from Artsakh are set to attend a summer camp in Hungary. In August, 120 children already participated in the program. The initiative was agreed upon during a meeting between Armenia’s Minister of Labor, Narek Mkrtchyan, and Hungary’s Foreign Minister, Péter Szijjártó.

This event takes place in the same country where Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan was brutally murdered in 2004 by Azerbaijani soldier Ramil Safarov during a NATO “Partnership for Peace” program. Margaryan was attacked with an ax in his sleep in their shared dormitory in Budapest. Despite being convicted in Hungary, Safarov was extradited to Azerbaijan in 2012, where he was pardoned, promoted, and celebrated as a national hero, highlighting the enduring issue of Armenophobia.

The statement disseminated by the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan alleging that on September 4th at around 7:35 p.m. units of the Armenian Armed Forces fired against the Azerbaijani combat positions located in the southwestern (Nakhijevan section of border) part of the border does not correspond to reality.

The French Foreign Ministry has published a warning advising French nationals, including dual nationals, not to travel to Azerbaijan unless there are compelling reasons. The advisory highlights that French nationals, whether residents or visitors, are at risk of arrest, arbitrary detention, and unfair trials in Azerbaijan.

This risk extends to those on simple tourist or business trips. The ministry warns that in cases of arrest or detention, fundamental rights may not be guaranteed.

French nationals who are arrested in Azerbaijan face the possibility of:
- Provisional detention or a ban on leaving the country, which may last for several months;
- Severe prison sentences following trials that may not uphold the rights of the defense.

Additionally, it is strongly advised to avoid travel to the border areas with Armenia and Artsakh (referred to in the statement as the regions of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast as well as the adjacent districts).

The Armenia-Azerbaijan border demarcation agreement raises significant concerns about the safety, security, and future of border residents. There are no concrete commitments in the agreement to address the well-being of these communities, particularly in regions like Tavush, where stability is fragile. The demarcation process threatens to disrupt local livelihoods and jeopardize the delicate balance that has allowed rebuilding and farming efforts.

French-Armenian journalist Agnès Vahramian has been appointed director of franceinfo, a radio network operated by the French national public broadcaster, France Télévisions. The announcement was made by Radio France CEO Sibyle Veil on Tuesday, August 27.

Vahramian will officially assume her new role on September 16. Previously, she served as France Télévisions' Middle East correspondent and was a war correspondent in Ukraine. She also held the position of correspondent in the United States. Before these assignments, Vahramian was the deputy editorial director of France 2, editor-in-chief of “Envoyé Spécial,” and later of the 8 p.m. news on France 2.

She succeeds Jean-Philippe Baille, who has led franceinfo since January 2021.
