Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

🗣"A person may say a word without thinking of its consequences, yet it causes him to fall into the Hellfire farther than the distance between the east and the west."
📚Narrated by Muslim (2988)

Shaykh Abdul Aziz Al-Rajhi (حفظه الله) said:

"Relying on Allah is an obligation that must be done sincerely for Him alone. It is one of the greatest acts of worship and among the highest levels of Tawheed. Only the most sincere believers can perfect it."

Shaykh Ibn Uthyameen رحمه الله:

"Verily, a person does not know if he will reach the following Ramadan and what comes after it.

The seasons of goodness are like commercial seasons, just as merchants prepare for the buying and selling seasons by importing many different types of goods (to be sold for a profit),

likewise it is befitting for us to prepare with a complete preparation for the arrival of Ramadan with righteous deeds and keeping away from the forbidden matters.”

📌The Salaf and Their Concern for Acceptance

ʿAbdul-Majīd ibn ʿAbdul-ʿAzīz narrated from his father, who said:

"I saw them(the salaf) striving hard in good deeds, but once they had completed them, they were overcome with worry and sadness wondering whether their deeds had been accepted or rejected."
📚 Muḥāsabat an-Nafs by Ibn Abī ad-Dunyā (108)

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

"Negligence keeps the heart away from Allāh, and the distance of the disobedience is greater than the distance of negligence,

and the distance caused by innovation is more serious than the distance of disobedience,

and the distance caused by hypocrisy and association of partners with Allāh is far more dangerous than all these."

Al-Nawawi رحمه الله said: “The scholars said it means whoever is ostentatious (seeks attraction of people) in his deeds and he publicizes it to people so that they honor him, aggrandize him, and believe he is virtuous, Allah will publicize it to people on the Day of Resurrection and disgrace him.”

Source: Sharḥ al-Nawawī ‘alá Ṣaḥīḥ

"Friends on that Day will be foes one to another except those who have Taqwa." (43:67)

means, every friendship that exists for a purpose other than for the sake of Allah will turn to enmity on the Day of Resurrection, except for that which is for the sake of Allah, which will last forever.

Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan mentioned:

“Look at yourself, don’t look at the people and that which they are upon, look at yourself.

Allah Ta’alaa said,

O you who believe! Take care of your ownselves, [do righteous deeds, fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)].

If you follow the right guidance and enjoin what is right (Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbid what is wrong (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden) no hurt can come to you from those who are in error.

[5:105]

Don’t say: this is what all the people are upon, look at yourself and save yourself.

Leave the people if they don’t accept the truth, but you keep firm upon it, and don’t be misled with that which the people are upon.
