The growing separation between individuals and their families is largely attributed to the soaring cost of living. Persistent inflation, heavy tax burdens, and limited job availability in competitive markets have created substantial financial pressures, making it increasingly difficult for many to sustain a decent standard of living. To address these economic hardships, a growing number of people are compelled to relocate to areas with better employment opportunities and higher wages. This pursuit of financial security, however, often comes at the expense of leaving behind close family members, such as partners, children, and aging parents.

In my view, this shift is not without significant consequences. From an individual’s perspective, time spent away from family often leads to mental health challenges. Being far from loved ones deprives individuals of essential support networks, leaving them vulnerable to feelings of loneliness, homesickness, and isolation. These emotional struggles can, in turn, increase the risk of chronic conditions such as depression, insomnia, and obesity. Such issues not only affect their overall well-being and quality of life but also hinder their performance in academic or professional settings.

Moreover, this shift can also create difficulties for the family left behind. Without the presence of one member, the remaining family members are often forced to take on extra duties, including managing childcare, household tasks, and caring for elderly relatives. These responsibilities can be especially taxing in larger families with more dependents needing attention. The resulting stress and exhaustion may lead to frustration and disagreements, causing strain on relationships and weakening the emotional connections within the family.

To conclude, the growing estrangement among families is closely linked to the soaring cost of living. This shift has detrimental effects, notably causing psychological struggles for individuals living away and placing greater burdens on those who remain, leading to strained relationships and emotional disconnect.*
