al-Muzanī reported that al-Shāfīʿī said: “To admonish your brother in private is to advise and improve him, and to admonish him publicly is disgracing and shaming him.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ الْمُزَنِيَّ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ الشَّافِعِيَّ، يَقُولُ: «مَنْ وَعَظَ أَخَاهُ سِرًّا فَقَدْ نَصَحَهُ وَزَانَه، وَمَنْ وَعَظَهُ عَلَانِيَةً فَقَدْ فَضَحَهُ وَخانَهُ

Abū Nuʿaym al-ʾAṣbahānī, Ḥilyah al-Awliyāʾ 9/140

Bukhari al-Maghrib Ibn Abdul Barr al-Maliki (368-463H) said:

“Allah Azza wa Jal is above the heaven over the Throne, above seven heavens, and His Knowledge is everywhere, as the Jama`ah of Ahl Assunnah Ahl Al-Fiqh and Athar said.”

Umar bin al-Khattab said:

"Winter is the [easy] prize for the worshippers."

Abu Hurayrah said:

"Shall I not point out to you the cool [and easy] prize?"

They said: "What is that, oh Abu Hurayrah?

Abu Hurayrah replied: "Fasting in the winter."

Al-Nawawi writes:

The scholars said it is an obligation to repent from every sin. If it is sinful disobedience between a servant and his Lord – unrelated to the right of a human being – then it has three conditions. First, the disobedience is abandoned. Second, one regrets what they have done. Third, one is determined not to repeat it ever again. If one of these three is missing, his repentance is not sound.

Al-Nawawi continues:

If it is sinful disobedience related to the right of a human being, there is a fourth condition alongside these three. It is that he acquits himself of the right by restoring it to its owner, if it is related to wealth or otherwise.
