اللّهُمَّ إني أسألك أربعة، وأعوذ بك من أربعة، فأما اللواتي أسألك فإني أسألك لساناً ذاكرا، وقلبا شاكرا، وبدنا صابرا، وزوجةً تُعينني في دنياي وآخرتي
وأما اللواتي أعوذ بك منهنَّ : فإني أعوذ بك من ولد يكون عليّ سيدا، ومن امرأة تشيبني قبل وقت المشيب، ومن مالٍ يكون عذابا لي ووبالا عليّ، ومن جارٍ إن رأى منّي حسنةً كتمها وإن رأى سيئة أفشاها

O Allah, I ask You for four things, and I seek refuge in You from four things.
As for the things I ask of You, I ask You for a tongue that remembers You, a grateful heart, a patient body, and a wife who will help me in my worldly life and for my next life.
As for the things I seek refuge in You from, I seek refuge in You from a child who will be a master over me, from a woman who will make me grey before the time of greying, from wealth that will be a torment and a burden upon me, and from a neighbour who, if he sees something good in me, conceals it, and if he sees something bad, divulges it.

قال شيخ الإسلام أبو يحيى زكريا بن محمد الأنصاري رحمه الله في سرح على الرسالة القشيرية:
أرواح الجسد : واعلم أن في كل جسد روحين ... إحداهما : روح اليقظة ؛ وهي التي ما دامت في الجسد كان متيقظًا ، فإذا فارقته نام ورأت المرائي.

ثانيتهما : روح الحياة ؛ وهي التي ما دامت في الجسد كان حيًا ، فإذا فارقته مات ، فالنوم انقطاع الروح عن ظاهر البدن فقط ، والموت انقطاعها عن ظاهره وباطنه . والروحان في باطن الإنسان .

وقد يكون في باطنه روح ثالثة ؛ وهي روح الشيطان!! واحدة اللطيفة الإنسانية .. لكنها تختلف باعتبارات مختلفة ، ومقرها الصدر ، لقوله تعالى {الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ}

تذييل : ولا تموت أرواح الحياة ، بل ترفع إلى السماء حية ، لكن لا تفتح أبوابها الأرواح الكفار . ثمَّ إذا نزلت تكون في القبور مجردة عن الأجساد .. منعَّمة بالثواب ؛ أو معذَّبة بالعقاب

نبّه على ذلك الشيخ عز الدين بن عبد السلام . وقد أخذ في الآية بظاهرها من بقاء الصدور على معناها ! وأكثر المفسرين على أنَّ المراد بها القلوب ؛ كما في قوله تعالى ﴿أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَك}
Shaykh alIslam Abu Yahya Zakariyya alAnsarī رحمه الله mentioned in his commentary on Risalah Qushayriyyah:
The souls of the body: Know that in every body there are two souls... One of them is the soul of wakefulness; which is the one that as long as it is in the body it is awake, but if it leaves it it sleeps and sees dreams.

The second is the soul of life; which is the one that as long as it is in the body it is alive, but if it leaves it it dies. So sleep is the separation of the soul from the outer part of the body only, and death is its separation from its outer part and its inner part. The two souls are in the interior of the human being.

There may be a third soul in his interior; which is the soul of Shaytan!! One of the subtle human souls.. but it differs according to different considerations, and its seat is the chest, as Allah the Almighty says {who whispers in the hearts of mankind}

Follow-up: The souls of life do not die, but are raised to heaven alive, but its doors do not open for the souls of the unbelievers. Then when they descend they are in the graves separate from the bodies.. enjoying reward; or tormented with punishment

Shaykh Izz alDin bin AbduSalam pointed this out. The verse was taken literally, that the hearts remain in their meaning! Most commentators agree that what is meant by it is the hearts, as in the Almighty’s saying: “Have We not expanded your breast for you?”
