The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, University of
Ljubljana, Slovenia is looking for a strong candidate to join the
Computer Vision Laboratory as a Post-Doctoral fellow to work with Prof.
Dr. Peter Peer. Specifically, in problems related to deep learning in
computer vision and biometrics applicable to deepfake detection,
explainability, synthetic data, and generative AI. The work will be done
jointly with the Laboratory for Machine Intelligence (Prof. Dr. Vitomir
?truc).
This opening is in response to the 2023 SMASH (machine learning for
science and humanities) MSCA postdoctoral program (co-funded by Marie
Sklodowska Curie Actions), which aims to sponsor high-quality
postdoctoral projects in a few selected universities. More details may
be found on https://smash.ung.si/open-call-3/. Note that the candidate
needs to prepare a short (10 pages) research proposal for the nomination
(after being selected by the supervisor following an interview).
Selected candidate(s) will be nominated for the SMASH PostDoc funding
scheme and then evaluated by international review panel. Upon
successfully securing funds the selected PostDoc will be enrolled into
the program. The program includes a two-year position, excellent working
conditions, access to top infrastructure (including the HPC Vega),
substantial research and travel funds and a salary that is significantly
higher than local costs of living and comparable to a Slovenian full
professor salary.
Interested candidates in joining the program are invited to send the
following application documents as one PDF file to
[email protected]lj.si by 16 September 2024:
? Cover letter briefly describing the motivation for the application.
? Detailed CV highlighting experience in computer vision, biometrics,
and deep learning including strong prior publications in top SCI
journals and conferences with the link to Google Scholar profile.
? One page research proposal in biometrics.
? The names and contact details of at least two referees willing to
provide support letters.
Female candidates and candidates from other underrepresented groups in
Computer Science and Electrical Engineering are especially encouraged to
apply. For any questions, please contact the academic supervisor:
Prof. Dr. Peter Peer
Head of the Computer Vision Laboratory
Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Ljubljana,

There is a postdoc job opening in my lab, with a focus on cortical
processing dynamics during naturalistic vision. The position can be filled
as soon as possible and is for 3 years. Our lab is based at the Justus
Liebig University in Giessen, Germany.
The project will employ behavioral studies, EEG, fMRI, and computational
models to study bottom-up and top-down processing during the perception of
dynamic and complex real-world images and videos. Within this topic, there
is some flexibility, depending on the strengths and research interests of
the successful candidate.
This is a great opportunity for a candidate who has prior experience with
using EEG and/or fMRI for addressing questions in (visual) cognitive
neuroscience, very good programming skills (matlab/python), and a strong
interest in the brain mechanisms of visual perception.
Our lab features a diverse team of young scientists that work on a set of
exciting topics in visual cognitive neuroscience. You can find more about
us here: www.danielkaiser.net
Beyond the lab, the project is situated within a big multi-site research
cluster ("Cardinal Mechanisms of Perception",
https://www.sfb-perception.de/index-en/) and within a vibrant vision community
in Gie?en, which offers ample opportunities for training, discussions, and
collaboration.
As a city, Giessen is a small but lively university town in the heart of
Europe, with a very high proportion of students.
The official job ad can be found here (application deadline is on 24th
September):
https://www.uni-giessen.de/de/ueber-uns/karriere/stellenangebote/wissenschaftliche-mitarbeiter/565-07-e
Please feel free to forward the job ad to potential candidates. I'm very
happy to answer any questions on the position, the project, or our lab -
just get in touch over email: danielkaiser.net@gmail.com
Cheers,
Daniel.
