💬 Defense Attaché of the Embassy Maxim Lukyanov: «On the 23rd of February our country will celebrate the Russian State Holiday – Defenders of the Motherland Day also known as Russian Armed Forces Day. This national holiday epitomizes the heroic history of our Army and Navy and the unbreakable link connecting all generations of defenders of the Motherland.

We would like to extend our heartfelt greetings on this holiday to our military personnel, volunteers, mobilised citizens, and specialists in various professions who are participating in the special military operation. Our troops are heroically fighting the neo-Nazism that has taken root in Ukraine, protecting our people in our historical lands, and are fighting courageously and heroically».

*❗️Russia Diplomats’ Day is traditionally celebrated on February 10. During this Day we congratulate foreign affairs officials and remember of our outstanding diplomats who contributed to the development of bilateral and multilateral ties as well as the promotion of Russia on the international arena.
🇷🇺*🇮🇩 Russian-Indonesian diplomatic relations were established 74 years ago, but the history of our interactions goes way back to the XIX century when the first and only consul of the Russian Empire – Modest Bakunin – arrived in Batavia in 1895.

During his posting, he advocated for the establishment of direct trade relations with the archipelago and even proposed to launch a regular steamship line between Odessa and Vladivostok with a call at one of the local ports.

📖 After completing his mission in 1899, Modest Bakunin wrote a book titled «Tropical Holland. Five years on the island of Java» where he described his unique experience as a Russian diplomat in Batavia.
