Ibn Abdul Al-Barr Al-Maliki (463 AH) states in his Al-Kāfi fi Fiqh Ahl-Madinah:

‎وإذا أخطأت الجماعة هلال ذي الحجة فوقفوا قبل عرفة بيوم أو وقفوا يوم النحر أجزأهم

“If the [Hajj] congregates were mistaken regarding the hilāl of Dhūl Hijjah and thus stood on Mount ‘Arafah a day before the Day of ‘Arafah or they stood [a day after] on the Day of Eid, their standing on ‘Arafah will [still be] valid.”

The thikr of Friday is making salawāt upon the Prophet ‎ﷺ:

The Messenger of Allah ‎ﷺ said:

‎: إنَّ مِن أَفْضلِ أيَّامِكُمْ يَوْمَ الجُمُعةِ، فَأَكْثِرُوا عليَّ مِنَ الصلاةِ فِيهِ، فإنَّ صَلاتَكُمْ معْرُوضَةٌ علَيَّ

“Verily the best of days amongst you is the day of Jum’ah therefore be abundant in sending salutations upon me during that day because your salutations are presented to me.” (Abu Dawud)

The Messenger of Allah ‎ﷺ said:

‎أنَّ رسُول اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: أَوْلى النَّاسِ بِي يوْمَ الْقِيامةِ أَكْثَرُهُم عَليَّ صَلاَةً

“The best people amongst me on the Day of Judgement are those who make abundant salutations upon me” (Al-Tirmidhi)

A number of people asked me about what Maliki texts I have studied. Here is the list in the exact order I studied them over a period of 9-10 years. All of them I read literally line-by-line and one-to-one with  my teacher Shaykh Ibrahim Sow Al-Mali.

  1. Al-Ashmawiyah
  2. Al-Akhdari
  3. Al-Muqaddimah al-Izziyah
  4. Al-Risalah
  5. Ibn Ashir
  6. Misbah al-Salik
  7. Tuhfah al-Hukkam
  8. Aqrab al-Masalik
  9. Mukhtasar Khalil
  10. Al-Sharh Al-Saghir
  11. Al-Sharh Al-Khabir

Note: Books 8-9 I studied together at the same time, as well as 10-11. That was done intentionally in order to analyze the contrast and similarities between them.

Other than that, I used to attend the lessons of some of the Maliki  Scholars in Azhar:

Shaykh Rayyan: lessons on Al-Sharh Al-Saghir taught at Shaykh Dardir's Zawiyah. I found his presence to be of much blessing. I really used to attend for the barakah. I used to attend occasionally.

Shaykh Abdus Sattar Zammout Al-Azhari: lessons on Hashiyah Al-Safti in the Azhar Mosque (he is primarily a master in Lugah and very humorous so his classes were filled with linguistic benefit and lighthearted commentary). I used to attend consistently.

Shaykh Abdul Sabour Al-Azahri: lessons on Hashiyah Adawi on Kifayah Al-Tālib in the Azhar Mosque. (I found him to be the "best teacher" amongst the Azharis and the only one I saw who would teach without carrying or holding a book). I used to attend consistently. He is the one from whom I inherited the love for this book as my favorite commentary on Al-Risālah. I studied with him long enough to grasp the inroads of the book and read the rest on my own over the years. To me he was the most astute teacher of Maliki Fiqh amongst the Azharis.

I generally never mention these Azahri Scholars as teachers "I studied with" because in all reality, I did not "complete" any text with them.

Everyone who was in Egypt and is truthful knows well that you can't study properly with them because they were really only teaching one day a week and not always constantly. So no one was really completing texts with them. For example, Sh Rayyan was teaching Al-Sharh Al-Saghir once a week for almost 10 years! In that time I had studied more than 11 main texts of the school with Shaykh Ibrahim.

Other than that, I studied parts of the second half of Khalil as revision with Shaykh Muhammad Haddameen residing in Abu Dhabi, the son of the late Maliki Scholar in Maurtania, Shaykh Haddameen.

The promise of Allah to those who make hijrah sincerely for His sake:

"Whoever makes hijrah in the path of Allah, he finds safety, guidance and sustenance. And whoever leaves his home to make hijrah to Allah and his Messenger then dies, his reward is granted by Allah. Allah is forgiving and merciful." (Surah Al-Nisā 100)

Imam Ibn Kathīr says in his Tafsīr of Quran:

هذا تحريض على الهجرة ، وترغيب في مفارقة المشركين ،

"This verse is an encouragement to make hijrah and separate oneself from the mushrikeen".

“Yes [she does have to pay fidya penalty]! However, Mālik used to permit women to drape a veil from the top of their heads on to their face if they wanted to cover”.

So here again, in Maliki Fiqh (this time from the most reliable source in the school, Al-Mudawwanh) we see a clear distinction between niqāb (wrapping the face) and veiling which is to drape a veil over the face from above the head.

Unfortunately, one who ignores the required training of scrupulous fiqh is bound to miss the details and this is exactly how misguidance is spread. Without having a properly scope and understanding of the Maliki School, a person can easily misunderstand “one liners” that they find in advanced commentaries of fiqh like Al-Sharh Al-Kabir.

This is why fatwa requires looking deep into the school and pouring over dozens of works before hasting to answer or teach things to the public. Whoever is not equipped with that knowledge should not represent the Maliki School in the position of answering fatwas to the public.

There are many more source related to this topic, this is just a gist and the tip of the iceberg.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

من حسن إسلام المرء، تركه ما لا يعنيه

"Part of a person perfecting their Islam is leaving that which does not concern them." (Sahīh Muslim)

In this age when it comes to deen, pay attention to what people are calling you to, why they are calling you towards it, and the manner in which they behave in doing so.

Then ask yourself how much practical benefit does paying attention to it have for the betterment and wellbeing of my deen.

If there is some direct benefit in deen that increases your knowledge to perfect your Iman and practice by bringing you closer to the established fundamentals of deen, then take it. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

In this age with the distraction of mass information, you have to learn how to filter well, and especially when it comes to the safeguard of your deen. Don't treat your faith and practice like a place of vain or curious recreation.

The Messenger of Allah ‎ﷺ was not considered eloquent because he spoke in high verbose language.

He was eloquent because he delivered divine guidance in such concise and simple language.

He had the ability to take the vastness of a divine message and encapsulate it’s entirety into a few words.

This is why the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

أعطيت جوامع الكلم

“I have been given the gift of concise speech.” (Sahih Muslim)

Eloquence isn’t about linguistic bewilderment, it’s about saying less.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏
مَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُصِبْ مِنْه ‌‏

“Whoever Allah wants to bring about good for, He afflicts him with trials.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

The meaning of affliction (اصاب) entails that what befalls him of tribulation is not from his own doing and nor does he have the ability to remove it. Rather it’s a test which Allah suddenly rains upon him and will remove when He pleases for some wisdom of goodness.

Thus, it occurs in circumstances that the person has no hand in bringing about and nor does he have a hand in getting out of it. Its beginning and ending is Allah’s wisdom.
