Developing countries provide important raw materials for Chinese producers and growing markets for Chinese exports.

According to the Direction of Trade Statistics (DOTS) of the IMF, in 1990, developing countries represented only 15 percent of China’s total trade, but by 2000 they accounted for 19 percent, and by 2010, they had reached 31 percent of total trade. After peaking around 34 percent in 2012, the percentage has plateaued due to weakening Chinese demand for raw materials coupled with historically low oil and metals prices.

The DOTS indicates that the value of China’s trade with the developing world was $29.4 billion in 1990 (measured in constant 2017 US dollars) and rose to $1.4 trillion in 2017 (about 34 percent of China’s total foreign trade)—a real compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.4 percent—compared to a 11.5 percent CAGR for China’s total trade over that period.

In 2017, according to the DOTS, China’s trade percentages by region were: Southeast Asia and Western Pacific (excluding Taiwan), 12.8 percent; Middle East, 5.6 percent; Latin America, 6.2 percent; Africa, 3.7 percent; South Asia (including), 3.1 percent; and Central Asia, 0.9 percent.

Istanbulda "O'zbekiston – Turkmaniston – Eron – Turkiya" multimodal transport koridorida ishtirok etuvchi mamlakatlar temir yo'lda arzon va raqobatbardosh tariflarni joriy etish hamda yo'nalish bo'yicha transport hajmini oshirishga kelishib olishdi.

Uchrashuv davomida ishtirokchi mamlakatlarning temir yo'l ma'muriyatlari o'rtasida tegishli bayonnoma imzolandi. Transport vazirligiga ko'ra, ushbu hujjat transport koridorini rivojlantirishda muhim qadam bo'ldi, chunki u barcha tomonlarning ushbu loyihani muvaffaqiyatli amalga oshirish uchun hamkorlik va birgalikdagi sa'y-harakatlarga roziligini mustahkamlaydi.
