A common Leftist framing device during the 1960s was to suggest that until every black person in America was given whatever he wanted and had it taken from White people, America shouldn't spend the money to explore space. It somehow made NASA illegitimate. With the aid of Nazi scientists, America and the Soviet Union progressed immensely. But that program ceased to give Blacks the right to whatever welfare they desire and rampage across America's hallowed out cities.

I think that the leftists were wrong in their time, but the structure of their argument makes sense to me. Until there is justice for every White victim of black violence, in this country, we don't deserve the prestige of going back to the Moon and so on. But bare minimum, until THERE IS JUSTICE FOR JUPITER, this country has NO RIGHT to explore Mars.

Instead of a sovereign, we have various competing interest groups performing and signaling but never leading. A statesman leads. We have governmental officials but no leaders and thus no state.
