Don't seem to recall them being too reluctant to put destroyed Russian tanks on display outside of half the Russian embassies in Europe.

These vehicles should be permanently parked outside of the respective embassies after this exhibition is over.

The White House has a new trade weapon against China

Biden's climate envoy just foreshadowed the end of the WTO as the US rewrites international rules to limit both carbon emissions and Chinese dominance of key industries.

*Speaking of dumb ideas... The White House has a "new weapon" against China - decarbonization. No, I'm not joking. They also say that there will be "collateral damage," namely the energy industry.

Usually the way you "end someone's market dominance" is by offering cheaper or better products, but that's too straightforward for the cretins in power in our country. For them, the way they'll do it, is to kill our energy industry. That's some 4D chess, DAMN!

So, in addition to rising steel and aluminium prices, we will also have much more expensive energy. I wonder what the Chinese think when they look at our policies. Do they think "there MUST be some kind of master plan, this can't be real" or have they just accepted that we're idiots?*

Sasha Kots writes:

Afterword to the liberation of Avdeevka

- My youngest son has never gone for a walk outside. Only if he goes to the hospital - there and back. And he is already one and a half years old, my friend from Donetsk admits.
- The older one cannot go to school. Of course, this is an important victory. For almost 10 years Avdeevka was a bone in our throats.

- For two years, we had to go on the run. Every time we worried, searching with our eyes where to fall and how to cover two children with ourselves, shares an acquaintance from Donetsk. - Every time I had to sit on pins and needles when my husband went somewhere. He used to go out for any errands. To the store for groceries, for clothes, to the pharmacy. The little ones lost two years of childhood. All the kid did was look out the window and watch the seasons change. How much those bastards from Tonenkoye were hitting the town!

Tonenkoye is the western suburb of Avdeevka, it has yet to be reached. But there are dozens of such ones around it. Villages, factories, industrial zones, where you can hide artillery and pound on a peaceful city with impunity. For 10 years Avdeevka was an impregnable outpost of the AFU right in the heart of Donetsk.

And all these years it was associated with a palpably looming threat. Not for the defense of the city, but for ordinary civilians. In 10 years, civilian casualties have numbered in the thousands. The fall of Avdeevka is not just the liberation of another settlement. Along with Marinka, it is the elimination of a powerful bridgehead with a huge number of fortifications and strongholds from which the people of Donbas were tortured. This is an important psychological victory over the image of infernal evil, which brings the martyr city of Donetsk closer to freedom from years of terror.

But beyond any doubt, it is also a brilliant military success. The biggest since the capture of Artemovsk. And this success was due to a whole set of reasons.

850 Ukrainian personnel lost their lives or were captured during the escape attempt on February 16 before the order to withdraw from the city. The fighting continued until February 17, with an additional 1,500 personnel losing their lives. Today, more than 800 personnel are trapped within the city.

The amount of lives lost from January to February 17 is unknown.

It wasn't a "tactical retreat to preserve lives"

*I overcame my allergy to hack journalism and read some of the articles written about this Ukrainian retreat. The picture that the Western MSM are trying to paint is that Russia, after losing a million soldiers, finally got the city because the brave Kiev leadership decided it wasn't worth it and wanted to preserve lives. The 7 brave Ukrainian heroes that died defending Avdeevka will forever be remembered and now are dining with their ancient Ukrainian ancestors! Glory to Ukraine!

Let's now check in with the real world, shall we?

As far as I could gather from sources that aren't Western MSM, the Avdeevka retreat was a total shitshow. The battle was another "meat grinder" where the remaining Ukrainian men were sent with little to no training and died by the hundreds every day. I can't find any actual casualty numbers (not confirmed anyway), so I'll get back to you all at some point, but I suspect the numbers are similar to those we saw in Bakhmut (around 50,000 men). The battle was another colossal disaster for the AFU.

Ukrainian soldiers started retreating without orders days ago and the official order to retreat was given, more likely, to save face (such as it is), rather than save lives. Even after the order was given it was botched, as many stayed behind because they were mostly surrounded and relatively few actually managed to leave the town successfully. Even now some of them are dug in at some factory, akin to what happened in Azovstal in Mariupol (this time they didn't manage to take civilians as hostages). Yet more soldiers were gunned down as they tried to flee.*

So yea, nah.
