‘Amr Ibn Al-‘As رضي الله عنه said:

"If any of you knew the reality of the hellfire, he would scream until his voice broke, and he would pray until his spine fractures."

[Kitāb az-Zuhd wa Al-raqā'iq, pg. 1007]

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

‎"A person should walk a number of steps after eating at night even if it is merely a hundred steps, and he should not sleep right after eating as it causes great harm (to one's body)."

‎ [زاد المعاد في هدي خير العباد ٤/٢٠٥]

ٱللَّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

Du'a upon completing Qur'an

It's recommended for a person to make du'a upon completing the recitation of the entire Qur'an.

Ibn Abi Dawud narrated that Anas (رضي الله عنه) used to gather his family upon completion of the Qur'an and make du'a.

If one does a khatm during the summer, then he completes it at the beginning the day as it is longer. If he does khatm during the winter, then he completes it at the beginning of the night as it is longer.

Al-Darimi narrated from Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas:

If one completes the Qur'an during the first part of the day, the angels send salah upon him till the evening. If he completes it during the first part of the night, the angels will send salah upon him till the morning.

Imām Al-Buhutī رحمه الله also mentions:

‎ابن عباس - رضي الله عنهما - أنه كان يجعل
رجلا يراقب رجلا يقرأ القرآن، فإذا أراد أن يختم أعلم ابن عباس فيشهد ذلك

Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنهما), that he would appoint a man to look out for another man reciting qur'an. If he was going to compete the Qur'an, this man would inform Ibn 'abbas so that he can witness it.

[Kash-shaf al-Qina']

Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) writes:

”If the Night of Qadr was some night during the entire year, I’d stand in night prayer the entire year to get it.

So what do you suppose should be done for merely ten nights?"

Dua for Laylatul Qadr (Night of Decree)

اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عني

“Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbulafwa fafuannee"

“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me”

Please for the sake of Allah ﷻ recite this Du’a as much as you can in these last 10 nights!

Ibn ‘Abbaas ‎رضي الله عنه said:

“Ties between relatives may be severed, and a person’s kindness may be rejected and unappreciated, but there is nothing like closeness between hearts.”

[Ad-Durr Al-Manthoor Fee Tafseer Al-Ma’thoor, 4/100]

When Struck by a Calamity

إِنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُوْنَ ، اَللّٰهُمَّ أْجُرْنِيْ فِيْ مُصِيْبَتِيْ ، وَأَخْلِفْ لِيْ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn, Allāhumma-‘jurnī fī muṣībatī, wa akhlif lī khayram-minha.

To Allah we belong and unto Him is our return. O Allah, recompense me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better.

Umm Salamah (‎رضي الله عنها) said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say,

“There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity, and then says what Allah has commanded him [the above supplication], except that Allah will recompense him with something better than it.”

She says: “When Abū Salamah (her first husband) passed away, I said,

‘Which Muslim is better than Abū Salamah – the first household to migrate to the Messenger of Allah?’

I then said (the above duʿā’), and Allah recompensed me (by marrying me to) the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”
