We often see various memes such as this one that attempt to define what exactly a "Heathen" is. And most of the time, people simply over-think the question.

While all the things listed in the first meme are certainly admirable qualities, they are not the essential aspect of what defines a Heathen. Heathendom is not a creedal religion, and it is not a religion "of the book".

Heathendom is the ethnic spirituality of the Germanic people. The essential aspect of this simple, self-evident definition is "the Germanic people".

Modern "codes" and lists of "virtues", and various and sundry Heathen "handbooks" do not define Heathendom.

The Germanic people define Heathendom.

It really is that simple.
