Carved a statue of Odin, based on an 11th Century original from Telemark.

I've completed the altarpiece of my home Vi now. Very pleased with how it turned out.

If you're looking to get into carving faces of any size I'd recommend the 10 minute wizard whittling project as a great starting point. You can go as detailed or as simple as you would like with it, you'll learn the fundamentals on face shapes and angles but best of all you only require a sharp knife and kevlar glove.
If you were to pause the below video at each stage and copy this gentleman blow for blow you'll be surprised with what you'll create!
