Anthropological bust of a Srubnaya man from Russia. This culture was a descendent of the Corded Ware that migrated eastward. They are believed to have developed out of the Abashevo culture and were closely related to the Andronovo. They were likely Indo-Iranian speakers.

Not much is known of early steppe clothing but thankfully there were enough remains of a cap from the Yamnaya derived Catacomb culture to give as an insight on what they may of wore. It was coned shaped with three rows of beads interwoven into the wool headdress. The beads are thought to be possibly made locally and materials used were bronze, faience, and mother of pearl.

Will be posting soon two new artistic reconstructions. One is a Bell Beaker/British Bronze Age male and the other an Andronovo male from Kazakhstan based on a Russian anthropological bust. These cultures represent the some of the most westward and eastward expansions of the Corded Ware cultures.
The Yamnaya lifestyle was characterised by massively increased mobility, compared to those Pontic Steppe societies before c. 3500 BC.
Not only in wagons but also in river transport up and down the mighty rivers crossing the steppe - Dnieper, Don, Volga, Ural - but also around the shores of the Black Sea.
The coastal trade linked the steppe people with Old Europe around the lower Danube in the west and on the eastern shores there was a trade route passing the Caucasus, and so ultimately linked the steppe societies with Mesopotamia.
David Anthony talks about this.
Interesting genetic channel I was introduced to. It focuses on QpAdm models with both modern and ancient populations.
Some more genetic info is given by this post.
Just having some fun theorizing a possible WSH family tree (note some images are my reconstructions and some are just AI generated from text prompts trying to visualize how these groups may of looked).
As new dna is published I may need to update or change.
