While Twisters is an all-quadrant franchise title, the film checked at least (give or take Lee Isaac Chung as a “marquee director”) four boxes. (...) It was a well-reviewed, gee-whiz crowd-pleasing, Imax-friendly tornado movie headlined by the stars (...) while also filled with actors you kinda/sorta know.
Yes, “movies for regular Americans” is often a dog whistle related to films aimed at specifically conservative moviegoers. (...) That said, Twisters [is] a G-rated romance set in Oklahoma that doesn’t mention climate change. (...) Twisters is a throwback to when Jaws, Beverly Hills Cop and Independence Day were either grounded in reality or featured ordinary people dealing with extraordinary circumstances. It’s no wonder the film over-indexed [in] Oklahoma City, Knoxville, Dallas and Wichita.
