‏قال: «أصبحنا وبنا من نعمِ اللهِ ما لا نحصيه مع كثرةِ ما نعصيه، فما ندري أيُّهما نشكر؟ أجميل ما ظَهر، أم قبيح ما ستر! ».

One of the salaf was asked:

In which state have you reached the morning? He said:

“We reached the morning and upon us from Allāh are countless blessings, despite how often we disobey Him, so we do not know which one of the two to be grateful for: the beauty of that which He has made apparent or the hideous matters that He has hidden”.
