After years of fights over mask mandates, why do some states now want to ban face coverings?

Lawmakers in New York and North Carolina believe masks are fueling crime and bigotry, but critics say banning them would be a threat to public health and free speech.

The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals recently delivered a landmark decision that an association of doctors can sue three medical certification boards for allegedly censoring the free speech of its physicians on topics ranging from COVID-19 policies to abortion.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons Educational Foundation (AAPS) claims the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the American Board of Family Medicine, and the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology threatened to strip doctors’ certification to practice medicine for speaking critically of the government’s positions on vaccines, lockdowns, mask mandates, and abortion practices.

The Appeals Court reversed a lower court ruling that dismissed the case stating the First Amendment grants the AAPS a “right to hear” from “willing speakers” about their opinions. The decision remands the case back to the lower court to allow AAPS a chance to prove its claims.

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “Censoring viewpoints offends the First Amendment. Doctors need to feel free to exchange ideas to discover new scientific facts and objectively treat their patients. Cancelling doctors for their opinions hurts the medical profession. Censorship has no place in a free society.”

“Myocarditis and pericarditis only occur after vaccination and not after COVID-19 infection, according to a recent preprint led by researchers at Oxford University, which compared health outcomes among COVID-vaccinated and unvaccinated children.

The study evaluated over 1 million English children aged 5 to 11 and adolescents aged 12 to 15. Vaccinated minors were compared to an equal number of unvaccinated, and children who took one dose were also compared to those who took two doses.

England’s data showed that myocarditis and pericarditis were only documented in the vaccinated. These results contradict data from other studies that showed a higher incidence of myocarditis after COVID-19 infection.”

AstraZeneca said on Tuesday it had initiated the worldwide withdrawal of its COVID-19 vaccine due to a "surplus of available updated vaccines" since the pandemic.

SF4699, the Health & Human Services Omnibus Bill, has just added what was SF610. This would allow licensed daycares to make policies refusing admission to families who have a conscientious exemption to one or more vaccinations.

Current MN law requires parents submit up to date vaccine records, a medical exemption signed by a doctor or a notarized conscientious
exemption for EVERY child upon enrollment in daycare (as well as public, charter, private or homeschool). Conscientious exemptions encompass a family's religious or conscientious beliefs and are utilized when their beliefs prevent them from accepting one or more vaccine doses. It allows space for public health recommendations while respecting the diverse population and individual autonomy of our citizens. This attempt to remove the conscienexemption for daycare children violates many other state and federal laws.
