“Profound and tranquil, free from complexity,

“Profound and tranquil, free from complexity,
Uncompounded luminous clarity,
Beyond the mind of conceptual ideas;
This is the depth of the mind of the buddhas.

In this, there is not a thing to be removed,
Nor anything that needs to be added.
It is merely the immaculate,
Looking naturally at itself.”

**Sirin**

Sirin

Sirin is a legendary creature known from Russian folk tales, depicted as a bird with the head and breasts of a beautiful woman.

According to legend, sirins live in the 'land of India' near paradise or around the Euphrates River. These creatures allude to the stories of sirens from Greek mythology. The sirins sang songs for the saints about future joys - for mortals, however, the creatures were dangerous; anyone who listened to their songs forgot everything earthly, followed the sirens and ran to their deaths. It was said that loud noises, such as cannon shots or the ringing of bells, should scare the animals off.

The creatures were also equated with the Polish Wila (fairy-like creatures).

Sirins symbolise sadness, suffering and despair, while the similar-looking alconosts, signify happiness and hope. Unlike alconosts, sirines are hostile to humans.

"3. The sun is called Āditya because he takes up the divine and terrestrial splendours as well as the nocturnal darkness.

  1. The root ‘su’ is used in two meanings to extract juice or to flow. Since the sun extracts refulgence and makes water flow, it is called Savitṛ.

  2. The root ‘cadi’ from which the word Candra is derived means ‘to delight’. It implies whiteness, chillness, and nectarine nature of the moon (Candra).

  3. The divine discs of the sun and the moon are refulgent. They move in the sky. They are white and are of the nature of fire and water. They are splendid and they resemble a circular pot.

  4. The disc of the moon is of the nature of dense water. The disc of the sun is white and is of the nature of dense fire.

  5. Devas reside in constellations, sun and planets. They live everywhere in these abodes in all the manvantaras.

  6. Hence the planets are abodes named after their respective planets. The Sun entered the abode Saura. The Moon entered the abode Saumya."

The Linga Purana, Chapter 61 - The situation of the planets (graha-saṃkhyā), verses 3-9
