Surely by optimising your graphics for that game you are unoptimising for every other?

ELI5: Why does it take so long to get an appointment with a specialist?

How is this a thing when there are conditions that could likely get drastically worse in between the symptoms showing and the actual appointment date? And also people getting no assurance it's not something life threatening causing extra anxiety and stress?

I have no expertise in economics or the medical industry so I'd appreciate any insights.

ELI5: How does modern warfare work?

So, to the extension of my knowlege, for most of human history, wars would be mostly fought either in siege battles or by two oposing armies, tipicaly standing in line, clashing on the battlefield. I guess that the last major war that was, more or less, fought this way was WW1, at least on the trenches of the western front, although the industrial weaponry brought a lot of changes.

From then on, i can't bring myself to comprehend how the post industrial era mobile warfare works. What are the armies fighting for? How do those enormous contingents of soldiers fight, armed to the theeth, in small to medium cities that could be obliterated by modern missiles and artillery? Are there still battles that look like WW1, with tanks and entrenched infantry just shooting and charging each other from different sides of no man's land? Why on footage from ongoing combat is so comon to see lone soldiers or very small teams wondering around the warzone when there are, suposedly, thousands or millions on the frontline?

When is it safe for electric current to pass through the body, and when is it dangerous?

I don't mean quantity of voltage; I mean that is it dangerous if I were to hang from a live wire (aka not grounded), or if I am grounded is that dangerous? Is it possible to have electric current flowing through the body safely, then instantly die because you touch a ground/stop touching a ground?

ELI5: Why does Cardiac Arrest/Heart stops beating hurt?

Watching House again and a couple of times people have died (temporarily) when their hearts stop. But before they go they all mention pain. This reminded me of when people have heart attacks there’s pain in the chest and left arm.

But why would it hurt if the heart stops beating? Is it the nerves, muscles, whatever dying due to the lack of oxygen and nutrients or is it the brain screaming at itself that the heart has stopped and it’s in full panic mode?

ELI5: What do people mean by an 'endorphin rush' after exercise, and what should you do to make it happen?

I don't understand what the endorphin rush is. Everyone talks about it as if it's a known thing but they never explain it. I've been going to the gym for around three months now and all I ever get is exhausted and weak, like my body is made of overcooked spaghetti, afterwards. What should I do to get this rush?
