**People naturally resist making changes in their lives.

What kind of problems can this cause?

What solutions can you suggest?*
It is human nature that people avoid change rather than embrace it. As a result, they face various challenges in life, such as an unhealthy life and job dissatisfaction. However, only by learning the importance of change can these people truly transform their lives.

One problem that results from avoiding change is the reluctance to continue leading a poor lifestyle. In other words, people are often aware of their unhealthy lifestyle, but continue to ignore exercise, overindulge in their devices, and consume alcohol. Consequently, many areas of their lives, say, work or marriage, suffer. The most obvious answer is education. These individuals should educate themselves about the importance of embracing change, otherwise they keep suffering the detrimental effects that their change-averse behavior has on their lives. If they start to abandon poor choices, such as preferring healthy meals to fast food or trading screens with exercise, they are bound to experience a transformation.

Another area of life affected by resisting change is work. Many people are unhappy with their work, and this sense of dissatisfaction is often the result of an authoritative boss, toxic co-workers or a meagre salary. Should these professionals tolerate such an unsatisfactory job, their stress levels only rise. A step to take to alter this situation is to change – resigning and seeking a job at an organization that ticks all the boxes. This means if workers find their manager as a do-what-I-say type then they have to secure employment at a company run by a transformational leader. The same applies to toxic colleagues and low salaries.

In conclusion, resisting change is detrimental to people who choose to do so, and unless they make a mindset shift around change, they keep paying the price, having a poor lifestyle and tolerating an unsatisfactory job.*

?Some feel that it is a good thing that people compete with each other in academic, professional and personal areas of their lives. Others, however, believe that competition pales in comparison with cooperation. In my opinion, it is the combination of these two that yields the best outcome.

Competition is arguably one of the most potent driving forces that motivates people to push themselves beyond their limits, outperform others and excel in everything they do. One simple example is school. Here, students are driven to vie for better grades and other academic awards, and in order to defeat their peers, they put in a sheer amount of hard work. Besides academic success, this same mindset equips them with all the qualities and traits necessary for the competitive job market awaiting them in the future. However, being too competitive can have detrimental effects. One is that a sense of competition forces individuals to consider their coworkers or classmates as rivals rather than team members, harboring resentment towards them in times of loss. People who overindulge in competition also suffer health issues, such as stress.

Cooperation is also a double-edged sword. Starting with the benefits, cooperation allows for better performing teams and collective success at work, study or life. This is because teams always consist of members with a range of skills and experience. This collective action is absent when individuals are trying to compete with each other rather than sharing a common goal. Cooperation also allows for the cultivation of social skills and perspectives, allowing individuals to tackle more complex challenges in any areas of their lives. However, some team members might not stretch their full potential or contribute evenly. Instead, they often choose to rely on their peers, often playing the role of a free rider. This is one main reason why some cooperative teams fail.

I believe that we should strike a balance between these two. At school for example, students should be encouraged to be competitive when it comes to getting good grades and passing their exams. However, they should also be taught about the importance of team working. Likewise, while striving to achieve personal or professional goals, individuals should also understand the value of supporting others and contributing to the greater good. This helps enormously in creating a harmonious and productive society.

To conclude, whether it is competition or cooperation, each comes with its own sets of benefits and challenges. Only by integrating and balancing both can we achieve optimal outcomes at work, study and life. As these are inextricably connected, it can be assumed that a person who values competition and dismisses cooperation is doomed to fail at whatever they do.

?*The plans display how much change Porth Harbour has experienced since 2000. Overall, a lot of change has been made to the harbor in order to attract visitors, including the construction of a hotel with its private beach, more capacity for passenger ferries and expanded facilities.

In 2000, Porth Harbour was a simple harbour. There was a short road in the north leading to a car park located next to showers and toilets and a marina with private yachts. Moving eastwards, a dock and public beach could be found. Another yet longer road in the south provided access to a larger car park, passed by fishing boats, and ended at the lifeboat. To the south and east of the lifeboat a second public beach and an abandoned castle could be found.

The harbor has become an attractive tourist area over the last 24 years. While the two roads connected to the Main Road have remained, the one leading to the second car park has been relocated. Also, the marina and fishing boats have exchanged their locations, resulting in changes in their sizes. Another dock has been built, serving more passenger ferries. At the same time, new cafes and shops have been introduced opposite this new dock. Another striking change is the conversion of the disused castle into a hotel accessed via a new road. Finally, the public beach in the south has been privatized, thus only accessed by visitors staying at the hotel.*

The maps illustrate a countryside town in 1983 and its current appearance. Overall, this rural town has been converted into a more residential and commercial landscape.

The north of the Main Road has undergone significant alterations over the period. For example, there used to be two houses and a large forest next to these in 1983. While the dwellings have remained untouched, the forest has been replaced by additional nine houses linked with a twisty cul-de-sac, named High Road. Moving eastward, the school just beside the River May has remained, but a new, massive dam has been constructed where the river starts. In the northeast of the dam, a large supermarket has replaced the old shop.

By contrast, the south of the Main Road has experienced negligible changes. Here, the raw of three old houses, and police station have not changed, nor have the post office and windmill further to the south. The only change that has taken place in this town is the replacement of the old farm with a new petrol station and café between the Main Road and Munster Road, which runs southbound.
