WHEN HE (((JESUS))) HAD FINISHED PRAYING, JESUS left with HIS disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side was an olive grove, and HE and HIS disciples went into it.
Now Judas, WHO betrayed JESUS, KNEW the place, because JESUS had often met there with HIS disciples. SO Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the CHIEF PRIESTS and PHARISEES. They were carrying torches, lanterns and WEAPONS.
JESUS KNOWING ALL that was going to happen to HIM, went out and asking them, [("WHO IS IT YOU WANT?")]
" JESUS of Nazareth, " they replied.

We ourselves heard this voice that came from Heaven when we were with HIM on the sacred mountain.
And we have THE WORD of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to the LIGHT shining in the dark place, until the day dawns and the MORNING STAR RISES In your hearts.
Above all, you must understand that NO PROPHESY of scripture came about by the prophets own interpretation. For PROPHESY NEVER had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from GOD as they were carried along by THE HOLY SPIRIT.

OH BELOVED, What a CHRIST we have!!! I want you to see that there is NOTHING like HIM. If you see HIM today, you needy ones, and GAZE at HIM, you WILL BE CHANGED. I like the thought of HIS calling HIMSELF THE GOD OF Jacob (Exodus 3:6). When HE SAYS HE IS THE GOD OF Jacob, there IS room for EVERYBODY. I tell YOU, HE IS YOUR GOD, and HE IS preparing to meet you exactly as HE met Jacob.
Jacob had DECEIVED SOMEONE in EVERYTHING he had done. He had DECEIVED Esau to get his birthright (Gen 30:25-43). The devil manipulated Jacob, BUT, PRAISE GOD, there was ONE thing that Jacob knew: IN Bethel, GOD let Jacob see the ladder--a WONDERFUL ladder, for it reached from earth to heaven--and Jacob saw angels ascending and descending upon it
(Gen 28:12). Bethel is the place of prayer. It IS a place of changing conditions, of earth ENTERING heaven. GOD brought Jacob right back to the same place, regardless of HOW he had wandered. Jacob had to let "EVERYTHING" GO, and he was left alone. The same old Jacob remained, and as long as GOD would let him wrestle with HIM, he wrestled.
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE of holding on to this world--
We NEVER LET GO until we have to. GOD touched Jacob, and as soon as he was touched, he found out that he was

GOODNESS & SEVERITY

GOD'S GOODNESS: THIS IS SOMETHING ADMIRABLE, ATTRACTIVE, PRAISE WORTHY; in the eyes of biblical writers, they are generally saying of all his moral qualities which prompt his people to call him PERFECT, & particularly his GENEROSITY moving them to call him MERCIFUL & GRACIOUS; speaking more of his LOVE. Elaborating on this, the BIBLE constantly ringing in the changes of theme of the MORAL PERFECTION of GOD. In his own words & experienced by his people, when GOD stood with MOSES on Mt.Sinai & proclaimed his name [ That is, the revealed character] of the LORD, [ That is, GOD as his peoples Jehovah. The sovereign SAVIOUR who says of himself, "I AM THAT I AM" IN THE COVENANT OF GRACE."] This is what HE said. " THE LORD, THE LORD, THE COMPASSIONATE & GRACIOUS GOD, SLOW TO ANGER, ABOUNDING IN LOVE & FAITHFULNESS, MAINTAINING LOVE TO THOUSANDS, & FORGIVING THE WICKEDNESS, REBELLION & SIN, YET DOES NOT LEAVE THE GUILTY UNPUNISHED!!" In this proclamation of GOD'S MORAL PERFECTION was carried out as the fulfillment of his promise to make ALL the GOODNESS pass before Moses, ALL these particular perfections mentioned here, & ALL that go with them-- GOD'S TRUTHFULNESS, TRUST-
WORTHYNESS, HIS UNFAILING JUSTICE, WISDOM, TENDERNESS, & HIS FORBEARANCE& HIS ADEQUACY to ALL who penitently seek his HELP, his NOBLE KINDNESS in offering believers the exact destiny of his fellowship in HOLINESS & LOVE-- These ALL make up GOD'S GOODNESS in the overall sum total of his EXCELLENCESS. When David declared, "As for GOD, his way is PERFECT," meaning he & GOD'S people experienced that GOD NEVER COMES UP SHORT!"
GOD'S GOODNESS to which HE laid claim, ( PSALM 18:)
" HIS WAYS ARE PERFECT, THE WORD OF THE LORD IS FLAWLESS. HE IS A SHIELD FOR ALL WHO TAKE REFUGE IN HIM." David's declaration how he proved GOD'S FAITHFULNESS IN ALL HE PROMISES & SUFFICIENT AS SHIELD & DEFENDER, every child of GOD who has NOT forfeited his birthright by backsliding; enjoys the experience.
( If you never read through psalms 18: carefully, asking yourself at each point, how far your testimonial matches up to that of king David; do so at once-- and again at frequent intervals. Finding it SALUTARY, if not shattering discipline.)
However: there is more to be said ALWAYS IN GOD'S MORAL PERFECTIONS, One in particular where his GOODNESS points, EXODUS (34:6) This quality which GOD especially singles out when proclaiming ALL his GOODNESS to Moses, HE spoke of himself as "ABUNDANT IN GOODNESS & TRUTH, this is the quality of GENEROSITY. Meaning a disposition to GIVE to others in a way which has no mercenary motives & NOT limited by the recipient deserve but constantly goes beyond it. Simply expressing the wish that others should have what they NEED to make them happy. GENEROSITY IS THE FOCAL POINT OF GOD'S MORAL PERFECTION, IT IS THE QUALITY DETERMINING HOW ALL GOD'S EXCELLENCES ARE TO BE DISPLAYED. GOD IS
"ABUNDANT IN GOODNESS
" Latin speaking Theologians long ago put it as, " Spontaneously GOOD overflowing with GENEROSITY." Reformed use the new testament word GRACE (FREE FAVOR) TO COVER EVERY ACT OF DIVINE GENEROSITY. Distinguishing between the common GRACE of "Creation preservation, & ALL BLESSINGS IN THIS LIFE," & THE SPECIAL GRACE Manifested in the economy of SALVATION!!
The point of contrast between common & SPECIAL being that ALL benefits from the former,
BUT NOT ALL touched by the latter. BIBLICALLY speaking, to say that GOD IS GOOD TO ALL IN SOME WAYS & TO SOME IN ALL WAYS. GOD'S bestowing natural BLESSINGS is acclaimed in PSALM (145)
" THE LORD IS GOOD TO ALL; HE HAS COMPASSION ON ALL HE HAS MADE...
THE EYES OF ALL LOOK TO YOU & YOU GIVE THEM THEIR FOOD AT THE PROPER TIME, YOU OPEN YOUR HAND & SATISFY THE DESIRES OF EVERY LIVING THING." The psalmists point here is, GOD controls ALL that happens in his world, Every meal, pleasure, possession, every bit of sun, nights sleep, health & safety, & everything else that sustains & enriches our lives, IS A GIFT OF GOD!
