FAST FORWARD TO 2023:

- Albo said that “we needed to strengthen the WHO” — which foreign minister Penny Wong has done by committing $100,000,000 to the WHO.

- The “3 pillars of his foreign policy” included being besties with the USA (hence the dance party with Larry Fink, Joe Biden and Xi Jinping yesterday);

- “Engagement in the region”, which includes giving $600,000,000 to PNG for an NRL team.

- And “support for multilateral forums” which obviously include the WHO and WEF.

Countries of the World Health Organization (WHO) have moved forward negotiations on a global accord on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, with a view to presenting a draft accord to the World Health Assembly in May 2024.

Next year is going to be wild.

Today is Vietnam Veterans’ Day, also known as Long Tan Day, in honour of the battle that became a defining moment for Australia in the Vietnam War. The Battle of Long Tan was fought in a rubber plantation on 18 August 1966, when an isolated Australian infantry company was attacked by the Viet Cong.

For more than four hours, 108 soldiers of D Company, 6RAR, and three New Zealanders from 161 Field Battery held off the Viet Cong fighters during a tropical downpour. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the Australian and New Zealand soldiers courageously defended their position against relentless attacks until the enemy was repelled by the arrival of B Company and the Armoured Personnel Carriers of 3 APC Troop. The Battle of Long Tan resulted in the deaths of 18 Australians – the highest number of Australian casualties incurred in any one engagement during the Vietnam War.

It has been 57 years since the Battle of Long Tan, and 50 years since the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
