‘Umar Ibn al-Khattāb (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anhu) said:
Assume the best about your brother (fellow Muslim, companion, spouse, friend, family) until what comes to you from him overcomes you. (But know that) you can never pay back someone who disobeys Allah in his dealings with you with anything better than obeying Allah in your dealings with him.[Abu Dawud, Kitaab az-Zuhd, article 89]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Raḍiya 'llāhu ʿan-hu) , The Prophet (ﷺ) said,

Perish the slave of Dinar and Dirham, of Qatifa (thick soft cloth), and Khamisa (a garment), **for if he is given it, he is pleased; otherwise he is dissatisfied.

Let such a person perish and relapse, and if he is pierced with a thorn, let him not find anyone to take it out for him.**

*Paradise is for him who

holds the reins of his horse to strive in Allah's Cause, with his hair unkempt and feet covered with dust:*

if he is appointed in the vanguard (a lower position in combat), he is perfectly satisfied with his post of guarding,

and if he is appointed in the rearward, he accepts his post with satisfaction;

(he is so simple, unknown, **and unambiguous that) if he asks for permission he is not permitted,

and if he intercedes (for someone), his intercession is not accepted.**

Do Not Ask Anyone for Anything

The Prophet (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) made a pledge of allegiance with some of his companions that they should not ask for anything from the people. If their whip or the rope of their camel fell, they would not ask a person to hand it over.

[Recorded by Imam Muslim (rahimahullāh) in Kitab az-Zakâh (Book on Zakâh), no. 108/1043.]

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullāh) said:

Disobeying the desires (in the strong moment when a slave experiences it) puts a servant in (aunique) position/state that in which if he makes an oath by Allah in supplication (to receive anything) Allah will fulfil it. So He executes (thedu’a) for him many folds more than the desires that he abandoned (for His sake).

Wahb Ibn al-Ward (rahimahullah) said:

If you are able to not have anyone precede you to (the obedience and worship of) Allah, then do so.
