Because factual history matters, I was surprised to see RFK Jr suggesting Trump’s face on Mount Rushmore. I realize many in the MAGA movement fondly support this memorialization. But RFK Jr surely knows Rushmore’s environmental history.

The Black Hills belongs to the Souix Treaty of 1868 and the mountain historically ancient sacred ground to these original people. European colonialization, uninvited armed aliens, destroyed the indigenous natural livelihood, culture, murdered innocent women and children in ‘stand offs (they were massacres) and when natives protested in the 1975’s two FBI agents were killed and native protestor Leonard Peltier was convicted of killing the FBI agents, a firefight broke out. Pettier was held responsible for their deaths and sentenced in 1977 to two consecutive life sentences in prison. Trump could pardon Peltier and respectfully, no body should be blasted on a sacred mountain a Treaty violates.

This is recent history, Grandmother Margaret, 13 Grandmothers visited me and shared the story of her own aunt, as a baby, survived one of these massacres (Custer, Bended Knee, etal all massacres of women and children to genocide and dehumanize into submission the indigenous), her head had been smashed and the baby left for dead. She survived but blinded for life. The aunt has long past, but Maggie is only one generation from witnessing the cruel genocide and all First Nations are still touched by our Nations lack of respect for our own Treaty’s.

In my era, the indigenous were touted as lazy, unproductive, etc they are not, they have been under psychological torture, we are a relatively young nation, our own historic crimes have not been that long ago. The collective trauma is real on the reservations.

Standing Rock Sacred Stone protests less than 10 years ago, is another example. The sacred stone monument, considered an 26,000+ year-old American Stonehenge was bulldozed, in the end, their creation story, origin story of their people, in a map of stones of the Pleiades… bulldozed over.

I ponder upon the deeper meanings, what are we not being told about our own land, how incredibly important America is to end times. All the indigenous prophecies have come true, but the last, they expect within the next 17 years: Fire reigns from the sky (also causes mud floods). The White House is a mud flood site (look it up).

May we never be lulled into amnesia ever again, may we remain awake. May we be better people. May we learn from history. May we not be dicks. Treat one another as we would want to be treated.
