Assad's 50-year bloody regime is over - the Syrian dictator fled and took refuge in Moscow.
The Assad regime, which has been in power for 50 years, has ended. The Syrian dictator fled to Moscow. Only Vladimir Putin, his last ally, gave Bashar al-Assad political asylum. His resignation was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Two days earlier, Moscow had threatened to destroy Assad's opponents and actively involved Russian army units in the fighting. However, as soon as the rebels entered Damascus, the Kremlin called the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham the opposition and offered them dialogue.
Russia has lost its last stronghold in the Middle East, Moscow is urgently withdrawing its naval forces from Syria, including the port of Tartus, which it has had since the Soviet era. With the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Russia has lost its only port in the Mediterranean, and Iran has lost a loyal ally that helped it in attacks on Israel. Another detail that the newly elected US president did not hide from the media: Putin has become so difficult in Ukraine that he no longer has the strength to defend the Assad regime.
The Kremlin has granted political asylum to Bashar al-Assad and his family. The population of Damascus and the rebels have celebrated the overthrow of the regime with public holidays. The rebels have seized government buildings in the country's largest cities. The population is taking out valuables from Assad's ancestral palace.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministries of Culture and Defense, as well as the Iranian Embassy, have been raided. The building of the State Security Service has been burned down. The rebels have also opened prisons, from which political prisoners have been released.
Before the formation of a transitional government, rebels have declared a nighttime curfew in Damascus, which they say will ensure calm in the country. According to the so-called Syrian opposition and revolutionary forces coalition, the country's governing body is being formed, which will operate until the government is formed.
While the rebels are taking over Syrian cities and towns, the Israeli army has captured the Syrian territory of Mount Hermon in the border buffer zone. According to Israeli media, the elite "Shaldag" unit of the Israeli Air Force participated in the operation to capture the territory. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the overthrow of the Assad regime is a direct result of Israel's forceful action against Hezbollah and Iran.
Together with Israel, the United States carried out airstrikes on 75 military facilities of the terrorist group "Islamic State" in Syria. The American command explained the purpose of the attacks, saying that they serve to prevent the strengthening of terrorist groups during the transitional period of power in Syria.
The 13-year war in Syria has killed nearly 500,000 people, including more than 300,000 civilians. The real death toll could be much higher. 100,000 Syrians are officially considered "missing," meaning they were either killed or died in Assad's prisons and concentration camps.
Syria's population before the war was 16.5 million. More than 6.5 million have fled the country.

Eighth night of protests on Rustaveli Avenue - demonstrators dispersed by 4 am. After which, cleaning services began working on the area.
Traffic in the center of the capital was restricted from 7 p.m. Traditionally, this is when protesters began gathering near the parliament.
Like the previous night, the protest was relatively peaceful. Some protesters lit bonfires, while others periodically chanted slogans and threw rocks and fireworks at the fortified barricades in front of the parliament building.
Special equipment intended for police events, including water cannons, was mobilized at Freedom Square, although law enforcement officers did not use them.
