There is a view that using money in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle in an attempt to avoid illness is more essential than spending money on treating already sick people. Because it is sometimes better to do so, partially agree with this notion as it is totally inhumane and people will become ill despite the actions being taken to prevent this.

One reason why allocating money to taking care of the sick could be that there may be no use in doing so. There are people who are terminally ill, such as those suffering from an incurable cancer, meaning that the money spent on helping them recover might be wasted. Moreover, the medication needed to cure them is usually prohibitively expensive, and must be used for an extended period of time. Thus, rather than wasting a huge amount of money on them, it may sound a better idea to spend it on promoting a lifestyle which could lead more people to stay healthy.

I, however, firmly believe that no matter what disease a patient is struggling with and how much money the procedure they need costs, they must be looked after for the following reasons. Firstly, letting sick people die is totally inhumane. We cannot do so in favour of others who have to lead a healthy lifestyle. This way of living should not come at the cost of other people’s death. Additionally, those who do not agree with me would think in a completely different way if they themselves were in the same condition with their unwell counterparts. Last but not least, however much money we spend trying to encourage a healthy lifestyle, it is highly likely that there will always be some who become ill and need money to get better. Therefore, doing what is being suggested by some is out of the question, I think.

In conclusion, it is true that under certain circumstances allocating money to encourage a healthy lifestyle can be more important than curing sick individuals. Nevertheless, we simply cannot do that as it is against what makes us human, and we will still have those who will battle with different types of diseases in spite of any promotions.

A recent exam question:

It is more important to spend public money promoting a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent illness than to spend it on the treatment of people who already ill.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

What wastes precious time?
Anything that doesn't feed the mind or soul. Anything supposedly useful, like a book, a lecture, a project, a friendship, that has a promising start but tedious, soul-sucking ending.

What wastes a well-planned day?

The final hours lost to aimless distractions - mindlessly surfing the net or engaging in meaningless chatter - regardless of how tenaciously you have held on to your productive self throughout the day.

What wastes a righteous life?

When nearing the deathbed, being overcome by heedlessness and selling all the hard-won good deeds in exchange for cheap pleasures. This is, I would say, THE definition of failure.
