Hello! This Sunday, we will be discussing the theme International Relations, broadly understood. How well do people from different nations, and the nations themselves, relate to one another? Is there any hope of improvement?

Leading questions for discussion are as follows:

Can so-called ‘mixed marriages’ ever work? Or does the formula of one man + one woman only ever lead to quarrelling?

During the late 20th century, one elderly resident of Central Europe claimed to have been resident in five different countries despite having lived in the same house all her life. Does this prove that war broadens the mind?

Is military intelligence vital to the security of a country, or a contradiction in terms?

Do you agree with the policy which states that all those wishing to immigrate into Russia should be subject to compulsory tests for mental illness?

Do you believe in reparations for the trans-Atlantic slave trade would improve relations between global north and south? If so, who should the Africans get to keep as slaves?

‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do’ they say, yet the Romans used to feed their enemies to the lions for entertainment. How far should immigrants try to integrate into the life of the countries they have moved to?

Have you ever suffered from cultural shock whilst abroad? Did you recover or are you still shocked by what you saw? What first aid measures are available to somebody in a state of cultural shock?
