قال رسول الله ﷺ : البركة مع أكابركم

Rasūlullāh ﷺ stated: “Blessings are with your elders.”

[al-Mustadrak al-Ḥākim, al-Ṭabrānī, Ibn Ḥibbān]

Mullā 'Alī Qārī رحمه الله:

“A companion free from defects cannot be found. If someone intends an individual clear of defects, they will remain without a companion. A human, especially a believer, will always have some praiseworthy traits. It is appropriate to consider these traits, overlooking the remaining [detested traits].

[Mirqāt al-Mafātīḥ, Kitāb al-Nikāh, 6/357]

Imām Abū Ḥanīfah advised Imām Abū Yūsuf:

“Do not laugh or smile before the laymen, nor frequent the markets.”

[al-Waṣiyyah, 2]

Al-Faqīh Abul Layth al-Samrqandī:

“Backbiting can be disbelief, for example, it is commanded to an individual: 'Stop backbiting.' He responds: 'This is not backbiting since I am truthful about it,' he has legalized what has been forbidden by decisive evidence. This is disbelief.”

[Tanbīh al-Gāfilīn]

It has been reported that a man claimed prophethood in the era of Abū Ḥaniīfah.

He asserted: 'Grant me respite so I may present an indication [of my prophethood].’

Abū Ḥanīfah said:

“Whoever seeks a sign from him has perpetrated disbelief since Rasūllāh ﷺ said: 'There is no prophet after me.'”
