Sincerity in seeking knowledge

Many people today decide to seek knowledge to ‘debate’ and ‘refute’ members of others Islamic schools of thought.

The Prophet ﷺ has warned us against such intentions when deciding to seek knowledge.

عن جابر بن عبد الله، أن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - قال: "لا تعلموا العلم لتباهوا به العلماء، ولا لتماروا به السفهاء، ولا تخيروا به المجالس، فمن فعل ذلك، فالنار النار".

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Do not seek knowledge in order to show off in front of the scholars, or to argue with the foolish, and do not choose the best seat in a gathering, due to it (i.e. the knowledge which you have learned) for whoever does that, the Fire, the Fire (awaits him)."

May Allah ﷻ give us sincerity in all that we do.

اللهم امين

Al Imam Al Busairi ﮼رضي‌اللّٰه‌عنه mentions in his famous poem in praise of the Prophet ﷺ the Burdah,

‘Whoever is aided by the Messenger of Allah, If lions meet him inside their woods, they bow silently.’

ومن تكن برسول اللهِ نصرتُه
إن تلْقَهُ الأُسْدُ في آجامِها تَجِمِ

It was narrated from Abu Dharr that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“There is no wisdom like reflection, and no honor like good manners.”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رُمْحٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنِ الْمَاضِي بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلاَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ ‏ "‏ لاَ عَقْلَ كَالتَّدْبِيرِ وَلاَ وَرَعَ كَالْكَفِّ وَلاَ حَسَبَ كَحُسْنِ الْخُلُقِ ‏"‏

Sunan Ibn Majah #4218

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Goodness and comfort are for him who worships his Lord in a perfect manner and serves his master sincerely."

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحاق بن نصر، حدثنا أبو أسامة، عن الأعمش، حدثنا أبو صالح، عن أبي هريرة ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قال قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ نعم ما لأحدهم يحسن عبادة ربه وينصح لسيده ‏"
