Marriage & Seeking Knowledge

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (رحمه الله):

Marriage does not hinder the pursuit of knowledge! Rather it may even help ones seeking of knowledge.

It may be that a person finds a woman who can read and write so she helps him, and if that's not the case at the very least it removes whispers and thinking about marriage.

Imam ad-Dhahabi رحمه الله:

**"Whoever seeks knowledge to apply it, is humbled by it and cries over himself.

And whoever seeks knowledge for schools and fatwa and as a reason to boast and show off is stupid and conceited and has contempt for the people.
They are destroyed by pride and hated by the people.

He has succeeded who purifies it (the soul), and he has failed who gratifies it (with corruption)."**

Level of Raising the Hands in Raf' al-Yadain

It has been authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ regarding the raising of the hands in two manners:

- The first manner: He ﷺ would raise his hands to the level of his shoulders.

- The second manner: He ﷺ would raise his hands to the level of the tips of his ears.

It has not been authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he would touch the earlobes, so it is not prescribed for a person, when raising their hands to the level of the tips of their ears, to touch the earlobes.

وقد ثَبَتَ عن النَّبيِّ صلى الله عليه وسَلّم في رفْع الیدین صفتان اثنتان:
• الصِّفَة الأُولى: أَنَّه كان صَلَّى اللَهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم يرفع يديه إلى حَذو مَنْكِبيْه.
• والصفةُ الثّانیة: انّه یرفع یدیه إلی فُروع أُذنیه.
ولم يَثْبُت عن النَّبِيِّ صَلَى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم أَنَّه كان يَمَسُّ شَحْمَة الأُذُن؛ فلا يُشرَع للعبد إذا رَفَع يديه إلى فُروع أُذنيه أَنْ يُلامِس شَحْمةَ أُذنِه.
